All in against cancer

Hi everyone!

On 19th of February last year I left a cold, wet Sweden behind to spend a couple of months diving in Asia. After 32h of travelling and 4 different flights I finally reached my destination Semporna, Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. I'd been diving there before, with my best friend Adam during our epic 6 month Asia trip, but that's another story!

It had been 3 years since I had been diving, and I only had a total of 13 dives, so i started off with a refresher course. Damn it felt good to be back in the water and the underwater world that I love so much! I wanted more, and signed up for both my Advanced and Rescue diver courses. After all of this I still wasn't done, but the next step, the Divemaster course, requires a much longer committment and I felt like Semporna was not the place for it (such a dump apart from the diving). I decided to move on and find a place where I would be happy to stay atleast 4-8 weeks.

I decided on Gili Trawangan, a tiny Indonesian island between Lombok and Bali, known for its diving (and increasingly for it's partying). I had been before. I decided that the combination of the natural beauty of the island, the large number of dive shops, and the busy bar and restaurant scene would make it the perfect place to do my Divemaster course.

I did my the course over something like 2 months and got about 150 dives in (hell yeah). I was loving life. I tried playing a little bit of poker and it didn't go so well, but who cares, I was living in paradise and diving every single day!

I stayed and worked for a month or so as a Divemaster, and during this time I met a girl from Australia who was doing her Divemaster training in the same diveshop. We dived together, watched sunsets together and had a lot of fun. One thing led to another an all of a sudden we had a holiday romance going on. Time went by and all of a sudden it was time for both of us to return home. She to Australia and me to Sweden. We had a sad goodbye on the beach and that was it....or?

I'm now sitting in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur and waiting for my flight home and I'm thinking "What the hell, I wanna see her again, Sweden can wait". So I asked her what she thought about me coming to Australia. The next thing I knew I had changed my flights and bought myself a Working Holiday Visa for Australia.

To be continued....
