Poker is full of swings. I sometimes run hot and win an absurd amount in a small number of hands.

My problem is that I tend to play much less during these upswings. I don't play bad or anything, I just feel a bit giddy and tend to not put in the volume. I tend to play more during downswings.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who struggles with this issue. What kind of techniques do people use in these situations? I have heard about not checking the account balance while playing -- I usually never manage to follow through on this step. Even if I don't check the cashier, I would still have a decent idea that I'm running hot, and that affects my play.
