as humans we'd like to minimize variance for our sanity, so what preflop sizing achieves this? a min raise with wide range or a pot size raise with tight range?

does anyone know of the theory behind this or is it just from experience? i can totally see someone having lower variance with either sizes depending on style and postflop play, so maybe the sizing has no affect on variance and i am asking the wrong question
