Hi, I quite often commute by car (2 hours per day) and was wondering if there are any good videos that I could just listen to the audio to get the main essence of. This would allow me to get 2 hours more of runitonce knowledge every day!

So far most of the videos I have found are play by plays which require you to actually look at the table, or some vids which require you to look at the slides.

For reference, I am a PLO player and not really interested in NL-specific videos.

Thanks!

Fairly unhappy with my results so far:
- Down 12 buyins after about 5600 hands
- Down 3 EV buyins

I'm not too worried about running 9 buyins below ev since this is probably fairly standard variance. Im particularly worried about how I have been playing. Yesterday I had some personal troubles but decided to play anyway to hit my volume goal which ended up with me clicking buttons for about an hour.

Today I was fairly focused in the beginning but after losing a few big pots I ended up just clicking buttons again without focusing.

I really have to focus on my mental game and try to stay sharp. Perhaps after losing a few buyins I should try to take a short 5 minute break to "reset" and make sure this doesn't happen again.

On a positive note: in the past after getting crushed like this (in play and running below EV) I would have tilted and moved my entire roll to 500PLO just to win it back (which would end up badly every time..). I had the urge today as well but decided against it. I think this is a win in terms of mental game and I should definitely be happy about this (small) victory.

Good first sessions! Enjoying 4-tabling zoom so far. Initially I was afraid that it might be a bit too much but haven't noticed any downsides yet. Gonna keep grinding!

Thanks James! Yea for sure there's a big difference. The site I used to play on was a site where the currency for which you played was a virtual currency used in a video game. I used to sell that currency back for real money. It attracted a lot of players who didn't do that and just played for a virtual currency. These were people who didn't actually play poker and didn't attach any real world value to the currency, so they were very spewy.

Post | Aalgarnaal posted in Chatter: 25PLO zoom and beyond!

Hi all,

I'm an aerospace engineering student from the Netherlands and I've been playing poker for about 2 years with moderate succes. Was breakeven for a long time when I started out on 2NL/5NL/10NL on Pokerstars. This was the case until last summer where I played on a website which doesn't allow tracking. It was a very unknown rake-free site and over the summer I made about 4000 euros playing mainly NL and some PLO. On this site I played up to 200NL/200PLO, but during this summer I also played some live 2/2 NL.

Didn't play much after this summer break due to a lack of time and motivation.. Lately I've been thinking about poker more and decided to pick it up again. During that summer I already realized that I enjoyed playing PLO more and I felt the potential edge was bigger. As long as I'm able to withstand the mental stress that can come with the added variance, it should be a no-brainer that PLO is the game for me. The site I used to play on doesn't exist anymore and I will therefore be trying my hand at the zoom games over on Pokerstars.

I know that people often say that other sites are better to play on since they have rakeback whereas on Pokerstars it's fairly nonexistent. Pokerstars, however, has a better rake structure and this somewhat compensates for the lack of rakeback compared to other sites. The competition on Pokerstars (especially zoom) is probably tougher (lower winrate), but given the fact that 4-tabling zoom allows me to get much more hands in per hour I think that for my hourly it shouldn't be a big difference. An additional advantage of playing this volume is that I will improve more as a player, since I will be exposed to more situations in the same period of time.

I have a $1000 bankroll and will be starting off at 25PLO zoom. I will adhere to the following BRM strategy:
- Always have 40 buyins for a certain level. That means If I reach a bankroll of $400 I have to move down to 10PLO.
- Take shots when I have 40 buyins for a level + 10 buyins on the next one. That means I will take a 50PLO shot at 25x40 + 50x10 = $1500. I will continue on this level until I lose the 10 buyins reserved for the shot and am back to 40 buyins on the previous level.

I am planning on playing an average of at least 1K hands a day, and study for 1 hour a day. Studying I am defining as watching runitonce videos/reading hand histories on runitonce/2p2. Also, I will post updates in this thread regularly to hold myself accountable.

Let's do this!

Hi, after a break I started on the 100PLO zoom level and I get the feeling that my game is not strong enough there yet. I am therefore considering dropping down to 25PLO zoom to improve my game and move up gradually.

What are your opinions on the rake at this level? Are there people (on this forum or elsewhere) who have shown that they can beat these games over a sufficient sample? Or is it simply not worth it to play 25 PLO zoom and just save up to start higher.

Cheers!

Hi everybody,

I became a RIO elite member yesterday and this is my first post. Very excited to start grinding again!

After a 6 month break I am looking to start playing PLO again. I want to start on the 100PLO level but I am not sure which site to choose. Basically a few factors I have taken into account so far and my thought process:

  • Rake. Pokerstars seems to be the lowest with 5% capped at $2.50. Many other sites come out at 5% capped $3.
  • Rakeback. Pokerstars offers no rakeback, other sites (like Party) do.

I believe that the two points above sort of cancel each other out. Other sites have higher rake but some rakeback, stars has lower rake but no rakeback. From a rake/rakeback perspective it seems inconclusive to choose a site.

When then look at other factors:

  • Ability to play 100PLO zoom on Stars. This quite a big deal because it allows me to get >750 hands per hour 3-tabling zoom. If I were to 6-table (which I think is my max) regular tables on a different site I would get around 370 hands per hour. For simplicity sake: let's say my hourly volume is twice as high on stars.
  • Stronger playerpool in 100PLO zoom on Stars. I think it is often said that Stars has the hardest games. We can therefore assume that achievable winrates (especially in Zoom) will be lower on Stars than on other sites.

If we take these points into account we can conclude that if my winrate on a different site would be >twice as high as it would be on Stars, a site other than Stars would yield a higher hourly. I personally doubt that this is the case, as the effect of the playerpool skill might not be that big in a game like PLO.

I therefore conclude that 100PLO zoom on Pokerstars is the best game for me. Besides yielding a higher hourly, we get some additional positives:

  • More volume means more "learning" experiences.
  • More volume means a more significant sample size quickly to draw conclusions from.
  • Stars has a smooth client/software.

What are your thoughts on this? I feel like my thought process is flawed in some way because I often see people playing other sites. Is it because they believe their winrate can be more than twice as high on other sites? Or do they play ~12 regular tables at a time to allow for similar volume on a higher winrate?

Cheers!
