HeavyMask I definitely agree and before this I was doing weekly/monthly result checking. I guess I am swapping a bit of focus on short term results for some increased motivation / volume. I will eventually go back to checking once a month.

Another day another loss on the volume front. Getting in over 2k hands is still okay. A bit disheartening that I have only hit that goal once. I probably need to be a bit more selfish with my time during the day. Went through some PIO sims as the study this morning and was quite happy with my play and picked up some good patterns that I had not seen before, so looking forward to a chance to implement those!

Thank you Max Lacerda

KKillerss Thanks for the feedback mate. I will keep it in mind :)

Got through the study portion today. Slightly more focussed than previous sessions. A fair few interesting hands today that I will run over night and look through in the morning. We didn't hit our hours goal, but started to feel the A game dissipating so called it a day.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I am interested in your opinion on the best way to spend 1 hour of study time? I also used to give myself a lot more time to study so this feels a bit more like a warm up. Currently I have some recorded coaching sessions which I am slowly working my way through, watching a video one day and then hand writing my notes into a notepad the next day.

Thanks GEOabc

Thanks. I too think this is the best approach with the caveat as you say of not putting yourself in a bad financial situation because of a downswing. I am pretty well rolled for up to $200nl, but I think from a confidence point of view it is important to have "completed" the limits leading up to this. (I realise 50k hands is not completing any level of poker).

Considering I failed all of my goals today, I am marking today as a massive win. I had a 3 hour window in which to play and study poker, with a lot of errands to run either side. This is a day in the past I would have 100% decided against playing and just taken the day off completely. Today however we managed to get in 30 minutes of studying and just under 3 hours of grinding. I am really please with this, these days will soon begin to add up over the years and having the discipline to get in some solid work really made me feel good.

The next full day of play will be on Monday. I hope to be in a position to put in some volume over the weekend, even if it is just a few hours.

So the first day went pretty well. I was quite excited to grind and whenever that happens I tend to lack focus in the study portion of the day. I think that will pass and in the future the one hour of study can be of a higher quality. Will be grinding again on friday and from next week I should be going monday to friday with some bonus weekend sessions. I played exactly 4 hours today, so 3.5k hands is the minimum I should put in on a full working day.

Post | CatorMan posted in Chatter: Cash Games: Moving Up Challenge

Hello!

Hopefully some of you remember me from my last thread. Since the end of that thread I have played and studied a bit but pretty sporadically as lots of life events happened that took a lot of my attention. I have started playing full time again this year and think I am always a lot more productive when I am journalling and utilising the accountability that this provides.

This blog is going to have a lot more volume and a smaller amount of more focused and hopefully more useful study. I have always studied more than I have played and for this reason I feel like my ability is not reflected in the results or the stakes that I am playing. This leads to the plan; Volume, Volume and Volume. It is time to move up the stakes and cement myself firmly as a decent midstakes reg. The best way to achieve this is a volume / moving up challenge.

Challenge

Starting at 50nl I will play 50k hands at every limit, if profitable after rakeback I will move up to the next limit. If losing I will move down to the previous limit and keep repeating this process until we make it to 500nl.

Rules

1 hour focused study before session 4 hours at least of grinding No phone / music / podcast / distractions Post graphs and thought after each session Play at least 50k hands a month

This is so sick mate! Thoroughly enjoyed the read. Have you seen the rake at GG at 1k+, do you think its beatable? https://gyazo.com/2d7432a799702d88e208820a8ff8fc60

Really hope you start another blog, have learnt a lot following along :)

Well this week has been quite a lot less fun. Pretty standard stuff so just gonna keep grinding through it. The RB / Leaderboards are not as good as I was expecting, probably only getting 15% and have seen that the rake on GG reg tables 500nl+ is absurdly high (2x+ stars) so the progression through the stakes is not really there. I feel very comfortable playing 4x zoom tables now even whilst thinking through decisions, my gameplan is becoming more and more defined so I do feel confident going forward. I did check results a few times this week, such an illogical act that I really need to avoid if I want to progress as it really does affect my mental game a lot.

With RB and leaderboards -400$ Bankroll $600

Yeah I was still getting them too so felt bad to leave, but off peak games on stars barely run.

At the moment it is just PIO'ing 1 or 2 marked hands a day or 30 minute of some kind of study material and just focusing on volume. How is the CFP stuff going?

July 29, 2021 | 7:56 a.m.

Hard to tell thus far, quite a lot less nitty and I really love the software. Have you tried GG?

July 28, 2021 | 1:22 p.m.

Ty radtupperware I am very fortunate to start of winning with the tight deposit limits on GG!

July 27, 2021 | 1:18 p.m.

Hey guys!

First week is in the books. It was a good one. Not checking results has made a huge difference, had multiple days where I swung down almost 10 buyins and the grinded my way out, if I had checked at that point I would have likely quit. We smashed all the goals apart from the 1x a week drinking and the 1x video per day, this week I expect to hit all of them.

With rakeback that takes us to a total of +609.94 and a bankroll of $1009

Post | CatorMan posted in Chatter: Back on the grind - GG poker style

I have decided to come back to blogging. After the last blog I had a month or two on RIO poker where I did pretty well but unfortunately not a lot of room to move up in stakes, I also hated the night time grind, I have always been more productive in the mornings. I then had a month of drinking and watching football, which was great.

This brings us to today; I want to play mornings UK time and I am absolutely fine with making less money because of that. Working out and being on the same schedule as my friends / family is way more important to me. Stars is very dead in these timezones, although I did pretty well in the morning times I was likely just running way over EV. I have now moved to GG poker, unfortunately being from the UK means a 200$ a day deposit limit unless you can prove proof of funds (which they make impossible). I will just deposit the max and play 50nl until we spin it up eventually. I am well rolled for 50nl it is just very difficult to get the money onto GG.The only real change from the last thread is going to be weekly instead of daily updates.

Goals
1. 3x gym per week
2. Max 1 day of drinking (one or two at dinner does not count)
3. 4x days a week grinding
4. 1x video per day (until I have finished the course I am studying)
5. 4000 hands per day (need to get in the hands to hit the leaderboard)
6. No checking results (this will mostly come in once I make a deposit stick)
7. Update thread weekly (monday)

Reflecting on the last thread I think I made a few mistakes. Firstly, I checked results and posted graphs way too often, which often led me to cutting days short (winning & losing). Secondly, I studied too much and did not play enough, I was probably close to 60/40 study to play and this time I want to be 20/80. Thirdly, I tried to move up too quickly and with too few buyins which led to stress when playing. With this in mind I will keep to a strict 100 buyin bankroll management, with a minimum stake of 50nl.

quik Have you been watching Luke Johnson vids? They are far superior to any other videos on the site at the moment (not an insult to RIO). It is obviously not going to be wise for Luke to share how he is exploiting a very tough pool who will be able to adjust quickly. Lots of the concepts that have been introduced in his videos I hadn't seen or heard of before so to say he is sharing stuff already shared is very unfair.

Lets get more Luke Johnson videos!

Thanks RIO! GG everyone :)

So I just downloaded all of my hands and I am very pleasently suprised, I was pretty convinced I was running very hot and a lot over EV. Turns out I was running under and my EV/BB was very good. Probably shouldn't let a 12k sample effect confidence, but it has (positively).

May 2, 2021 | 11:05 a.m.

It has been a pretty intense week at RIO poker. I have gone for the leaderboards most days, with a good amount of success even though we had quite a lot of real life obligations. The main issue with RIO is with the low traffic there are a lot of times where you spend hours waiting for games. So I have signed up to a GTO mobile trainer to study with on the side, so whilst waiting for games I can spend an hour or two studying with the trainer. I spent most of the week just playing 50nl and the small amount of 100nl that runs, this week I want to be winning both the 20nl & 50nl weekly leaderboards whilst playing whatever 100nl games run. This should breakdown to 650 euros leaderboard prizes, 200 euros legends and around 150 euros deposit bonus cleared. The games are fairly tough and mostly run 3 & 4 handed but I believe I have at least a few BB/100 winrate but obviously variance is going to decide what happens to table results I just want to
stick to studying in downtime and winning the leaderboards.

Financials for this week (graphs later, need to wait 24 hours)

Leaderboards: 480
Legends: 100
STP: 161.65
Deposit: 120
Table Profit: 105.66

Total: +967.31

This is awesome to hear, thank you! Goodluck to you too!

May 1, 2021 | 11:46 p.m.

Will update on Sunday. Still on the RIO grind and enjoying it.

April 28, 2021 | 9:57 p.m.

Really awesome to see some 6 max content, enjoyed the video. Would really love to see the study portion too. I completely relate to playing the off peak schedule, although I am suprised you manage to find enough games I struggle at 100 sometimes.

I was quite suprised to see you have a huge hud you don't seem to use much, do you not find it distracting?

April 28, 2021 | 12:28 p.m.

Great videos. These tools are really awesome! Be great to see you investigate the hands you got wrong and explain why you think PIO is doing this. You seem to understand / explain what PIO does in an accurate but easy to understand way.

Cheers!

April 26, 2021 | 9:14 a.m.

Okay well I now see why people mostly play on stars. Sky Poker is impossible for me to use, I get auto logged out constantly occasionaly I can get it working enough to play a few hours, but mostly its minutes. So I have decided to go with RIO poker. The software / support is great and I quite like the anonymous games as I don't really use a hud or try to make too many exploits. They are running daily leaderboards from Monday so I am going to aim to win the leaderboard on Monday and Tuesday. With that I would like 2 RIO videos a day as study. Then we will take Wednesday off as a study day going through the biggest pots in PIO and posting some graphs.

April 25, 2021 | 9:46 a.m.

Fantastic video. I think having two people on call and making it a live coaching is a great concept. Would be cool to see a theory study version of this or a HH review, where you explain broader concepts to a student. Thanks!

April 25, 2021 | 7:46 a.m.

Yes mate! Amazing news, congratulations. Good to see hard work paying off.

April 23, 2021 | 2:31 p.m.

So we have got it working. The site is pretty soft from what I have seen so far. Not sure the best way to track in this thread because I am scared to use the tracker as the software is very crash happy. I ordered a new 4k monitor today which I am pretty excited to get set up, will post a picture of the new set up. Going to be studying quite a lot of heads up because I will be starting tables and battling heads up a fair amount playing between £50nl & £100nl to start with.

My routine of marking hands to solve is going to have to change. Will be increasing the video watching and probably look back into using the GTO trainer software a bit more whilst I am waiting for tables.

Session length: 2 hours
Profit/Loss: +£220

April 23, 2021 | 1:51 p.m.

Hey man, really appreciate that, thanks! Oh wow that is awesome, thanks for that link. I am being instantly punished for leaving stars, Sky has been crashing all day and I have played 0 hands!

April 23, 2021 | 12:32 p.m.

Awesome video. That 33 fold was crazy, a lot of hands here I would pay off very quickly without thinking. Time to think a little deeper. Do you think it has improved your game a lot playing on ignition and seeing hole cards?

April 23, 2021 | 9:18 a.m.

April 22, 2021 | 11:38 p.m.

Well quite a few changes happening today. I decided to ditch stars, I wanted to try some of the smaller softer networks and see what I was missing out on. So I am grinding on sky poker at the moment, playing a few different stakes probably a slight increase overall because of £ tables instead of dollars. The games run a bit later on Sky so I will have the whole morning / afternoon to study and then get in 2/3 hours playing in the evening. That does mean no graphs, which might make this thread pretty boring but I will continue with the daily updates. I might also put some sessions in on RIO and try to go for the leaderboard one week. I am quite keen to help promote RIO because I think its a pretty awesome company.

Here are the graphs so far....

April 22, 2021 | 11:38 p.m.

Good day today. Didn't have a lot of time to be productive but managed it pretty well. Been through the first Clanty video, want to finish the 2nd and all my marked sims tomorrow.
