Hand History | Fazz posted in NLHE: 10NLz - Facing Donk River Jam in a 3bet pot
Blinds: $0.05/$0.10 (6 Players) BN: $18.74
SB: $10.25
BB: $10.00 (Hero)
UTG: $7.41
MP: $20.22
CO: $10.00
Preflop ($0.15) Hero is BB with Q A
4 folds, SB raises to $0.30, Hero raises to $0.85, SB calls $0.55
pre flop seems standard here, AQs can easily slot into the value section of a polarised model, just as a sub question thoughts on using polarised 3bet model as a default in this situation?
Flop ($1.70) 7 8 A
SB checks, Hero bets $0.81, SB calls $0.81
Flop, easy bet with our exact hand but I'm unsure of sizing here, I'm torn between 1/3 pot with entire range, or a more polarised 50% sizing since we have quite a few weak 1 pair hands in this model such as 99-KK and some hands like 73s, 85s etc.
Turn ($3.32) 7 8 A K
SB checks, Hero bets $1.95, SB calls $1.95
Turn, seems like an easy value bet since this is pretty much the second best hand we ca have in this spot and V can definitely call with worse.
River ($7.22) 7 8 A K K
SB bets $6.64 and is all in, Hero calls $6.39 and is all in
My initial reaction to this shove is that it's extremely nutted however, I don't really have any kings here apart from AK which lead me to a call.

So I'm trying to construct a balanced defence range when we open in MP to 3bb and get 3bet by the CO to 9bb.

Say we open a standard MP range of roughly 206 combos and our MDF in this situation is approx 45% (could be wrong) this means we should defend roughly 90 combos.

How the hell do we build a balanced defence range including 4bet call, 4bet fold and flatting sub ranges with only 90 combos?

I work out that we need a bluff:value ratio of 3:1 since when V shoves (100bbs effective) our MDF= 25% (again my math could be completely wrong here).

If my math is correct here I just don't understand how we can build a complete range with so little combos, the range I have built is:

4bet/stack off: AA, KK (12 combos) 4bet/fold: KQo, KQs, AJs, A2-A5s (36 combos) flat: AQo, AKo, AKs, AQs, QQ, JJ (44 combos)

This gives a total of 92 combos which seems fine according to my maths but feels so nitty. Any help would be appreciated

I have MP1 labelled as a rec, seen him make some weird plays like min raising and horrible 3 bet sizes in general. I think even against someone like this it's maybe an error to bet so big on riv... the min raise just makes me want to throw up because I would think that V would atleast raise the turn with most 10's... but I can't see him having any bluffs here

cheers, I definitely have some combo draws that I would check raise on this board and might check raise with KK and QQ sometimes although I think I will be very far from balanced in this spot.

squeeze too loose here? Mp ranges can be fairly tight sometimes in zoom and with a caller to get through maybe this squeeze slightly ambitious? one of those hands that are too good to fold but I don't like flatting and give BB opportunity to squeeze. Opinions on the squeeze?
Flop ($1.80) Q 7 K
Hero checks, MP bets $1.20, Hero calls $1.20
folding flop seems criminal given V can have some AsX hands and other flush draws that might choose to play aggro.
Turn ($4.20) Q 7 K 9
Hero checks, MP bets $3.64 and is all in, Hero folds
Given my logic on the flop does a turn fold make sense here? V can still have all these suited A combos that may play this way. 9 is a bad turn since some JT that may play this way gets there, although we block JTd. My reason for folding here was that I can just be dead so often or be up against some combo draws that have a tone of equity against me.
Final Pot MP wins $4.03

Comment | Fazz commented on Nl5z- Call riv?

I think cutoff can have clubs here a decent amount of time on the flop although that is debatable at NL5 where people often just call in position with all flush draws. My thought process was that folding flop was too nitty giving the equity that I had and the presence of a flush draw but maybe I could make a snug fold here... opinions from anyone else on a flop b/f?

Dec. 10, 2017 | 7:16 p.m.

yep river x/f is consensus. V turned QQ with Qs into a bluff for anyone who was interested but I still felt this spot was a bit too stationy

In a previous thread I was told that cbetting my entire sb 3bet range on monotone flops to %22 pot was a good strategy. what types of hands should I be cbetting on this texture if I am checking here and to what sizing?

At the time my thought process was that V has many missed flush draws and only value combos being KJ, AJ, 88 (AJ which we block heavily). If we were holding ace of hearts I think I would have folded pretty easily, in retrospect NL5 population just not bluffing enough in these spots? I feel like this is probably a fold but could just be results orientated...

Any help appreciated :)
