BN: $41.37
SB: $20.00
BB: $50.39 (Hero)
Preflop ($0.30) Hero is BB with 8 K
UTG raises to $0.60, MP folds, CO calls $0.60, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.40
UTG opened very wide. CO was a recreational player who stacked off v light a few hands before. I felt that vs a wide UG rage plus the weaker player in the pot i could call profitably on this spot.
Flop ($1.90) 2 3 8
Hero bets $1.62, UTG folds, CO calls $1.62
Felt that K8 is a good hand to add to my donk range here to get value from 8x and protect our equity. I expected UTG to play quite one on this board threeway.
Turn ($5.14) 2 3 8 2
Hero bets $3.88, CO calls $3.88
I am not sure I like my bet sizing here. We are either way ahead or way behind most of the times. I was aiming to get value from 8x and 45s
River ($12.90) 2 3 8 2 9
Hero bets $10.70, CO calls $10.70
Should we be ever checking here against a weaker player? I feel that his 8x combos outweigh his bluff combos. I felt vilain will call for 3 streets of value and hence the bet. On the other hand not holding the Kc might justify a check call here as we could easily be doing this with a draw ourselves? Input here would be appreciated :)
Final Pot CO wins $32.73
Rake is $1.57
Villain showed us 7c 9 c

lIlCitanul Thank you for the breakdown. I like your line of thinking here and retrospectively I agree it should have been a fold.

April 24, 2020 | 6:10 p.m.

Hey lIlCitanul thank you for your comments.

I would also 4bet almost always. I flatted due to gameflow and dynamics.

My river bet is indeed for thin value. When he checks the turn I know he does not have a lot of top pairs or two pairs in his range. There will be more combos of 1 pair by the river that might call a small bet than his nutted range.

That was my reasoning for the small river bet.

SB: $20.00 (Hero)
BB: $25.07
UTG: $20.00

Preflop ($0.30) Hero is SB with A J
2 folds, CO raises to $0.48, BN folds, Hero calls $0.38, BB folds
I should be 3betting profitably here most of the times vs a small bet and a wide range. Not sure why I didnt in this occasion.
Flop ($1.16) 2 4 9
Hero checks, CO bets $0.74, Hero calls $0.74
Turn ($2.64) 2 4 9 8
Hero checks, CO bets $1.40, Hero calls $1.40
Im i being too stubborn here? Should we be folding? I felt there's a lot of over cards which he double barrels which are pure bluffs or have low equity hence the call.
River ($5.44) 2 4 9 8 2
Hero checks, CO bets $3.60, Hero folds

Retrospectively I feel the check on the turn was really bad and we miss value from Jx.

On the other hand on a 3bet pot the line of bet bet bet would probably only be called by AJ,KJ and 8x and random fdraws?

Defending 36s is a bit too wide imo for Nl5. Either 3bet in position or move on.

Turn should be a check. Problem here is that by the river you removed a lot of his Ax combos,

Against a competent player bet fold would the right play on the river.

JamesYang would you mind elaborating on the river sizing? We are already betting 1/3 of pot. What would you make that?

I think for NL5 I would go bigger and exploit most NL5 who cant find a fold.

April 19, 2020 | 9:47 a.m.

I think after you bet 2.5 bbs and the SB completes its safe to assume that BB calling range will be wider than what you assigned. I wouldn't be surprised for him to have holdings such as A3o, 54o, 53, 36s,78o, that he decided to peel with for pot odds.

By the turn the BB is betting 2/3 of pot and based on what he has behind in his stack he is not folding.

Given their stack sizes I would re-raise flop at NL25 and make sure I realise my equity and deny as much of theirs.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. Always good to get some perspective.

Seems like I am over thinking this too much hehe.

Is the correct play to fold turn or river?

JamesYang this was played here at Runitonce. :)

April 19, 2020 | 9:21 a.m.

Thanks Gohan.

Yes i think by the river it should be a smaller bet.

April 19, 2020 | 9:16 a.m.

Its quite unlikely he found a set there given the preflop action.

I agree with above that your 4bet range should have more 77+ and less speculative 4bets there.

Postflop I like the play. Represents a lot of strength and you will have a lot of value combos yourself taking this line. You also deny him river equity when he folds while you still have 25% improve against over pairs.
