Great video Jen, I played that charity tournament in Jersey City as well, and the thing that I took away is ... order drinks, laugh, and have a good time

Cheers - it's around 22:30. But yeah, makes sense. I guess it's a spot where we're just not gonna play for stacks with the exception of coolers/opponent spazzes. Jx's are so rare that since it's so hard to force indifference on value for massive sizing ... we shouldn't really have any massive sizings. Turn overbet doesn't make that much sense theoretically as Jx's are gonna pretty inelastic on most rivers if they call turn - though I have this sometimes as a exploitable turn overbet to get immediate foldouts from middle pair, and to get full stacks when I get river value, with 100% giveups on bricks. I think players are overly elastic in folding range from 75% PSB to 125% PSB , but I can understand now why it's kind of a trainwreck in practice. Thanks :D

Hey Chris,

With the JJ48ss board where you have 65o, do you ever have an overbet of around ~1200-1300 for geometric/good river shove sizing? i imagine hands like J4, 44, 65ss, occasional T9ss would like it (those are hands I often find myself doing it with in spots like this), but I'm wondering if that's a little too ambitious?

Hey Dylan - about the hand around 25:00 where you open the 99 and go 3ways on 764dd board - what's your flop line if you have ATdd? I could see arguments for x/r and x/c, for me it's frequency (still have some small showdown value against other dd hands and straight draws which I can stack on mutually beneficial turns, though with BTN's SPR, we can get it in really good a lot of times on flop and realize thru x/r). If we choose x/c, and turn goes x/x, do we still block river, or try to target a stronger range of bluff catchers with large sizing? Having Ad has some unblocking effects for BTNs calling range (though I'm not sure how relevant since Axdd is a popular 2 barrel hand for BTN). 1.5x pot overbet also attacks what I think is a capped BTN range with turn check, and if the player is competent and knows that their range is perceived as capped, and that we have a lot of bricks on this runout, their calling range might be inelastic enough where that could be most profitable line. Too ambitious?

Great video and series. I watched the video this morning (16 hrs ago), and tonight I got HU in a $109 being like ~80bb effective. I really felt like your advice and having example hands fresh in my mind was very helpful, and I played likely my objectively best HU ever. I definitely wanted to give my appreciation.

I think your analysis of other players mistakes are equally as helpful as explaining your own thought process. There are some spots where it really made me notice how out-of-line I get in similar situations occasionally (aka how much I suck).

Overall, thanks for the series and I'm looking forward to future content :)

Hey Daniel,

About the J8 BB hand - what value hands do we have for a shove if 8x isn't one of them? 44 immediately comes to mind. Slowplayed aces? Should we some 3x combos in our calling range? 65ss is often x/r'ing, as is A5ss, and perhaps A5cc. I'm always curious in these spots - Pio really recommends x/r the nuttier parts of our range on flop, but it seems to lead our bluffs to be imbalanced on the river.

Ya, I certainly get the sizing on our end/incentive to polarize - I guess i'll more so curious about what SB calling range consists/whether its advisable to have some 8x x/r's (or naturally x/c against jam) against randoms as SB rather than 100 percent frequency betting with them

Hey Chris,

In regards to the hand with the Q9 overshove BvB, what hands can we be targeting for value when we have Q8 or any 8x? I imagine many of their Kx's would bet turn for value, and they'd bet all their 8x's OTR for value. Or should we be putting some 8x's in our river checking range (or Kx's in our turn range) to protect our capped range here? I know you were saying the Q9 has great removal for their 8x's, does this imply having some frequency checks with that here as SB?

Hey Apotheosis, cool video. I've been getting in a lot of spots late in tournaments where I'll find myself in many marginally beneficial +ICM plays (against range) against spewy (and generally poor) opponents late where I have the risk of elimination, or crippling my stack to a point that prevents me from having the utility to push my edge over other opponents I can comfortably exploit. While I feel bad sometimes making the "nittier" and less ICM positive play, as I'm getting exploited in sorts, the hearts example actually kind of made me feel more comfortable. I am getting exploited, but this player eventually equilibriums themselves against the whole field, as someone will be able to cripple him (and benefit the field) with their premiums at a high frequency, as the player is just non-stop spew and won't adjust to player specific ranges. I thought "well, it seems like I'm letting them win", but this made me think about how "letting them win" isn't actually a win. The rate they disperse equity by bad play to field, and the chunk I receive from that, is higher than the marginal equity they gain in plays where I might make the nitty, -EV play, and that according equity I lose out on.

Moral of the story is - you're not "giving up an edge" if the person you're giving it to is just giving it back :)
