So I got pretty burnt out. Took a few days off. Back on it today and moved down to <30s to keep it a chilled grind. Putting mindset first is definitely important at times like this, as although playing a normal session is higher EV today if I lose and take 2 days off after, its not more +ev.

Study

Reviewed a new schedule for this lower ABI grind and set stuff up for ease of multi-tabling. Which is basically nothing and I should have done more!

Session

A good way to start this lower variance grind. Had 5/6 FTs and just ran well throughout. Kept playing well though and didn't let overconfidence creep in. Did stick the Bundesliga on but as its the first football match in a few months will give me a free pass.

Day 7

Study

Running through 5 marked hands in PIO now.

Session

Tough one today. We didn't run badly overall, just felt incredibly distracted throughout. I think the fact we are completely locked down and therefore poker becomes the only real productive/interesting part of my day, leads to more swings in relation to how poker is going.

Day 6

A day of rest. Did run some PIO sims and set up a small aggregation report that I can start learning how to work with. Longer session today.

Day 5

Study

Another Setherson2 video. Playing vs the BB in SRPs. Really great video, some good new concepts I have heard before but never fully understood. Working out what bluffs to use in which size by "matching" them with your value hands. Gonna keep up with the theory vids in the future.

Session

Was one of those sessions that made me thankful I only register for about 4 hours! Bricked most of the schedule and lots of hands where regs punted and then profited from their mistake. This is definitely another trigger for me, even though it is completely illogical and that regs making these mistakes are good for me. I did okay keeping a fair amount of composure and finishing out the session playing well, I was, however, a fair bit more distracted than usual.

Day 4

Study

Watched a theory video on turn probes from Setherson2. Was a really good video, helped to work out what sizes to use on which turns. A good reminder that I have not utilised that side of PIO fully and will make that a top priority when my RIO elite sub runs out.

Session

My sessions are just 5-7 hours now which is on the shorter side for MTTs but as I am playing daily on lockdown it seems to work well. Played with a lot of focus today and really felt like I was in the zone.

Day 3

Study

Still finishing with the live FT replays. Tomorrow I am going to be moving to more theory orientated videos. The study may also decrease slightly in the future.

Session*

Was quite happy with my play today, I basically bricked but felt like I kept up the play quality pretty well. Games really are amazing at the moment, so as alluded too in the previous section I may decrease/remove study and increase the number of games played. This would not be a long term change, but it is unlikely games will ever be this good again so its probably the time to capitalise.

Happy to have at least ground out the BB win!

Day 2

Study

Continued with the Greenwood series, quite interesting as he is advocating playing looser than ICM would suggest, learn quite a lot from someone who takes a different approach. Spent quite a few hours in the sun today so actually going to finish the study portion before I go to bed.

Session

Felt very zoned in today, was no urge to be distracted even though the session was going pretty badly until the last few tables. I also ran a really big bluff in the highest buyin I play when I already had a really nice stack, I was very confident in the play and even when it didn't work I still kept a pretty cool head. These mental triggers will, of course, be tested more when I go through a sustained losing period (which is inevitable).

Anyway, 23 tournaments played. Decent BB/100 so I will post it!

Day 1

Study

Have an elite subscription for the first time in a few years. I have spent the last few days going through the FT replays of Pwndidi & Greenwood. Found these videos really useful for being able to go through lots of close spots per hand. I was definitely playing too tight on final tables. Specifically, defending the big blind and opening too tight.

Session

Played 24 tournaments today. I find it quite hard to objectively assess play quality, lot of it is just skewed by card distribution. I was pretty happy that even though I bricked all of my $50+ games very early in the session I still kept a pretty strong mental game. This is normally a tilt trigger for me, so it is good that I kept play quality up.

Will share a daily BB/100 graph, might make the update slightly less boring! Will see if I keep this up when I am getting destroyed :D

Hey, thanks!

This is a good question. As I have only just added in the 100s, for the rest of the year I just want to grind this schedule and get a good sample. I think the process of playing good quality sessions, studying lots and putting in consistent volume is the only goal for now. As for long term goals, I am not sure will reevaluate at the end of the year.

Hey Guys,

I am an MTT grinder currently trapped in the UK because of Covid-19. I have spent much of the last 5-6 years playing poker and travelling around with some brief real-life work sprinkled in. I have been thinking about starting a blog for a while and this seems like a great place to do it. I have really enjoyed and benefitted from the Mobius and Onkleb blogs and although I think the likely only benefactor of this blog will be myself, I still thought it would be fun.

I am currently living with my parents as I have no permanent place to live, luckily we get on great and not being able to leave the house its a pretty good time to not live on your own. After we get through this pandemic I plan to go back to travelling and will likely head to South America, who knows however when that will be, I am thinking it will likely be next year.

I don't play on any of the main sites and don't want to give away my screen name or the sites I am playing. They are all pretty small fields and a few extra regs could have a big impact on my bottom line. I started the year playing up to $22 and I am now playing up to $109s, my ABI is around $35 and my AFS is around 150-200. So far this year I have played around 3k games and I am up around $11,500.

As we are on full lockdown here in the UK I am trying to play and study every day. I will update this thread daily with how the session went and something I have learned that day during my study.

About to start my first session so let's hope we get some blog run good.
