BB: $200
CO: $201.42
BN: $202 (Hero)
SB: $272.28
SB is 30/23/7.1 with 43% aggression and 33% WTSD over only 52 hands.
Preflop ($3.00) (4 Players)
Hero was dealt 5 4
CO folds, Hero raises to $5, SB calls $4, BB folds
Flop ($12.00) 5 8 7 (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $8, SB raises to $20, Hero calls $12
I like c-betting here as my hand is very vulnerable. And I call because the raise is small and I have position to go along with a pair, gutter, and backdoor flush draw.
Turn ($52.00) 5 8 7 Q (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero checks
I tend to check back in these spots as his range is polarized. I'm not getting better hands to fold, and hands that I'm ahead of that will call have decent equity - T9 and a 6 with an overcard.
River ($52.00) 5 8 7 Q A (2 Players)
SB checks, Hero bets $40, SB calls $40
After I check back the turn I'm not repping much value with this bet size, but he was showing 3 stars so I thought I had a decent shot at bluffing him and folding out 7x, 8x, 66, 99-JJ, basically any one pair hands.
Final Pot
Hero has 5 4 SB has A J SB wins $130.50

Would anybody be able to provide me with / point me in the direction of an in-depth explanation of ICM and how to apply it to tournaments?

I love the booking wins idea too. It definitely helps to build your confidence back up. I also find it helps to not look at session stats - which I usually do after every session. This way your primary focus is on playing well and not the short-term results.

On the positive side, downswings motivate me to work harder on my game away from the table!

My downswing is over a very small sample - 15k hands. Which I guess makes it a little better since I'm not losing over a prolonged period which could be indicative of a losing player. Although it does suck to lose that much over so few hands, and what makes it even crappier is that I'm only running $300 below All-In EV over that sample.

Well, thanks for putting things in perspective guys!

Any suggested poker crusher blogs? Preferably 6-max.

I'm currently on my first prolonged downswing since I started playing poker - 20 buy-ins. I was just wondering, how standard is this? And how much worse can this get? Assuming I'm a winning player. If it helps, I play 200NL 6-max.

Sorry if this has been asked to death before.

Yeah, I never looked at it that way. I guess you're put in a ton more difficult spots?

Sounds good to me. I'm actually looking to mix in some 6max tables, but FR will probably still be the main format I'll play.

I'm hoping to see some more full ring videos from Adrian or even other elite pros if possible. I know 6-max is much more popular but there still some of us full ring players around :)

CO: $205.42
BN: $83
SB: $203.64
BB: $532.86
UTG: $185.92
UTG1: $203
UTG2: $410.65
No reads on villain, but I believe he is a big winner. I am new to 200NL :)
Preflop ($3.00) (9 Players)
Hero was dealt A J
UTG folds, UTG1 folds, UTG2 folds, LJ folds, Hero raises to $6, CO folds, BN folds, SB folds, BB raises to $16, Hero calls $12
Decided to call IP with a strong suited ace. I definitely considered that a reg could assume I was a recreational player (which I am) and 3-bet me light. Is this a fold from the HJ w/o any real reads?
Flop ($37.00) 4 2 K (2 Players)
BB bets $20.80, Hero calls $20.80
He insta c-bet. I floated as it is a good board for him to c-bet and I would likely bet the turn and/or river if he checks to me. I also have backdoor nut flush and backdoor straight draw possibilities.
Turn ($78.60) 5 (2 Players)
BB bets $43.85, Hero calls $43.85
He bets a little over half pot again. I picked up a wheel draw but I am really calling to jam the river if he checks. I think this is where I should have folded if not pre-flop. The board is very dry and I can only rep sets and maybe AK.
River ($166.30) T (2 Players)
BB bets $134.07, Hero folds
Maybe he really does have AK?
Final Pot
BB wins $163.50 , BB wins $134.07
:(

hey, about what you said about quickly folding your 3bets to 4bets.. If a player does that I'll probably 4bet them light more often because they're 3betting with marginal hands. Why is it that you don't want them to think they put you to a hard decision? By the way, love your vids!

Feb. 5, 2013 | 12:27 a.m.

I see, thanks. And why do you prefer this stat over the 4bet (after 3bet) stat?

Jan. 31, 2013 | 12:34 p.m.

I play full ring but I still found this video quite useful! Can you explain how 4bet range is calculated?

Comment | rl924 commented on 50NL FR - KJ
Thanks for the pointers James. I think above all else, the main reason I chose not to bet the river was because he posted pre and was not a reg, so there's a greater chance he's the type of player that's hard to push off a hand. And it didn't help that I was OOP and could be getting trapped. The only missed draw was 53 and most of his weaker hands would have folded to my turn barrel. If I did hit a Q would I not normally be checking and re-evaluating if he bets because a worse hand doesn't really call me?

UTG folds, UTG1 folds, LJ folds, HJ folds, CO checks, BN folds, SB calls $0.25, Hero raises to $2, CO calls $1.50, SB folds
CO posted so I raised for value and to isolate.
Flop ($5.00) 4 2 8 (2 Players)
Hero bets $2.50, CO calls $2.50
C-bet small here thinking it would accomplish the same as a larger bet.
Turn ($10.00) 4 2 8 9 (2 Players)
Hero bets $5.50, CO calls $5.50
Fired again as the 9 is a bit of a scare card and I can get any naked pair below eight's to fold. I also may have picked up more equity.
River ($21.00) 4 2 8 9 Q (2 Players)
Hero checks, CO checks
Final Pot
Hero has K J CO has A A CO wins $19.58
