Saturday played for 11 hours at the local casino, (tournament 60 runner) overall grinding away fairly good.down to the last 5 players, I'm sitting UTG with AKs, blinds are 10/20k I raise to 60 I'm sitting 350k (average at this time is 300k) small stack 280k sitting in the CO, shoves all in with 99 I snap call ( can't find a fold at this stage lol) flop 6JQ giving more outs with a 10, turn a 4 river a 3 .Is it possible to fold here or would that be bad play.

Just a quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with.

you are first to act on the river, (heads up) you are holding the knuts

Are you forced to bet !!

or can you check raise if you wish.

I was playing in a live game last night when a player checked and on show down was warned re not betting on the river!!

thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Chip average at this time 83k
Hero AKh

UTG: 100k
UTG+1:180K
MP: 150K (hero)

Preflop

Hero is MP with AKh
Blinds 1500/3000
UTG : raises to 6k
UTG+1 calls 6k
Hero raises to 18k, SB folds, BB folds, UTG and UTG+1 both call
Flop
(58,500+1,800 ante) As Kc 3c
UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets 40k, UTG folds and UTG+1 calls.
Turn
(138,500) As Kc 3c 4d
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets 50k, UTG calls.
River
(218k) As Kc 3c 4d 5c, UTG+1 checks Hero sitting with 50k aware of the flush i bet 20k for value $1.29, UTG+1 asks how much do i have left another i had 30k 10BB),he shoves all in I'm not good enough to lay this down and call. UTG+1 had 8c6c.

Because elf the size of the pot i called should i have folded with my 30bb left ?

good evening Daz thank you for all the above info. much appreciated. well to get things started and in answer to your questions games first NLHE, and PLO ( i know i need to spread my wings further for more games ) as these are the two popular ones that i get involved in at the moment.

At the moment i play live poker (Texas and Omaha) 4 and 1 respectively during the week at a local casino. Both cash and tournament.

I have tried online poker also but just seem to be trowing money away playing small tournaments, I think it was whilst entering my first decent tournament one of the GUKPT i saw just how good some of the players are, and feel it would be nice to compete against them.

As i am retired i have plenty of time to learn my life revolves around playing golf in the day and poker 3 or 4 times a week., (thank the stars for soaps on tv (keep the other half busy !) most evening,

What am i struggling with ? trying to take too much information in at one time, lol positioning, pot odds, value bets, still playing too many hands, even after doing some small research !

What do i want out of poker ? improvement for sure I know there is so much more to the game than just  the cards that are in front of you !

I would like to play better poker online as i do have the time !

My apologise Daz is PM this reply or another post !

Again appreciate all the help

Cheers Robbie

Good Day All, I have been playing poker on and off just recreational, whilst working abroad 3 or 4 times a week. Having now retired still early 50,s :) have meet a good group of young guys at the local casino who play some very good poker, and i would like to complete in the same arena. It does not take long sitting talking with these guys that i really know nothing about the game. They all offer assistance which is greatly appreciated and said this was the number one source of learning.  I must admit have reads lots online and its like going back to school :). So basically I'm looking for the best advice on where to start as there are so many articles available . Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated to you and your staff.
