In the AA on minute 27, you say that you should have called the turn instead of shoving. Being out of position, if you would have called, woudl you have donk the river to try to get more value, or would you have checked expecting that he would shot a second barrell but putting in risk getting more value?

I don't think it's correct to set the terms of contract in public, but about hours recorded, I've been broadcasting 3-4 times a week for about 6 weeks (2 of those weeks I broadcasted 5 days a week due to spanish scoop).

Post | vanway posted in Chatter: Just got my first Sponsorship!

wow, can't believe this...

I've been playing poker for a lot of time (never intended to be profesional), for fun, but trying to learn too.

Like a month ago, I decided to start broadcasting my games on twitch since there was no MTT broadcasters in Spanish. Since the first broadcasting, I realized I liked cause it helped me being more focus, so I decided to go on every time I was playing.

What's my suprise that a bit more than a month later, I've got a sponsorship and I'm gonna be paid for playing and broadcasting through twitch! No, I'm not staples, and I don't have even a 5% followers than he has, but hey, there's also a medium class in poker, it's not all highstakes players :)

Just wanted to share this with all of you. And thanks RIO for the videos, and specially Owen Shields and Jon Daily for helping me make my game better through coachings (if you need coachs, these guys are the best!).

Now, out to celebrate, and tomorrow my first sponsored broadcast. If you understand spanish and wanna come say hello, you can do it at www.twitch.tv/vanway

nice one! How do you put more than 1 stat in 1 grid? If I try to do it, I gotta do it without separators, and I see you got it with separators. I'd love to do something like yours with my stats, but every time I try I fail miserably.

Comment | vanway commented on Do you call or fold?

I did the same thinking when I was playing but thought that the risk was not stack-worth it so I decided to fold. But the more I analize the hand, the more I see I should have called. Thanks for the reply!

Thank you David. You are right that I should be looking at the bigger picture, but sometimes is difficult :) I've come back to the game, and came back to run really bad, but I've got the first step which is not tilting again and keep playing relaxed. I guess I feel like It's just a matter of time until I get back to winnings, gotta keep focused on studying and grinding. Thank you for your reply!

Thank you Hans. I try to do everything you say, and I have a solid BRM, so no big deal for that. Actually, I was going, as I explained, through a big downswing in those scoop, and it didn't affect my game. I guess it's kind of seeing the result you've been waiting after a lot of work so near, than then it explodes in one hand (with a good decision)... I don't know, At the moment I'm taking a days off poker, and then I plan to study for a few days and revisit my scoops before going back to the tables, once I feel like I want. Luckily for me, I don't live out of poker.

Post | vanway posted in Chatter: Best way to recover the mindset fast

I'm gonna try to explain my situation to see if anyone can help me here, since it's a new situation for me.

I've been working really hard on my mental game, and actually I've got a mindset that I never thought I had. I used to tilt fast, and get really frustration when downsings or bad beats. I did a lot of work, read a lot about positivity, learnt some yoga, etc, and that helped me a lot.

I was playing the whole SCOOP on .es, and running completely terrible, entering one of my worst downswings ever, but that didn't affect my mindset and kept playing my A-game. This eventually was gonna pay out on the last tourney of the last day of SCOOP, but a terrible bad beat left me bubble of FT. I actually ended up the SCOOP even thanxs to this result, but that hand has left me in a situation of satiety respect to poker. Not for the hand, but for the fact of taking me out of the chance to fight for the victory (which would have been my biggest win ever).

So I find myself in this situation where I find lost on how to recover my ilusion for the game. Yes, this is really recent, but sincerely never had this feeling before.

Any sugestion for this?

Hi Owen. Great job as always :) On the minute 23, with A7s you say that it would be better to call than to fold. Don't you contemplate the 3bet push there?

I don't have many hands on the villians... I decided to fold cause I thought the second player might have a set... is it correct?

Thanks for the video. On the 16:20, the check/raise with K9o, what would you do if he flat calls your raise? Would you fire a second barrell on any turn, or would you check/fold if a blank comes?

I'd like to see a video about sizing on wet flops for MTT. This could be really interesting!

Oct. 10, 2014 | 2:51 p.m.

hahahaha, I play really few on .com. I prefer to play .es because the fields are smaller and much much softer. Working with Owen has probably meant my biggest step ahead in my poker career. Results keep comming, just ended 4th in the Superjueves bigstack Turbo 50€ for 1.1k€. Not bad!

Oct. 10, 2014 | 12:38 a.m.

Yesterday we did the 7h hour of coaching, and Owen find out how bad I am with icm, specially on final stages of tourneys. So, icmizer subscription bought, and I'm gonna work on it. And today, did 2nd on the same tourney I won, so 900€ more to my premium account :) although is undeniable that results are helping, What is making me really happy is to see how my game has evolve in the last month. I never thought that a coach would help that much!

Here you can see my graphic. Where you see the arrow is when I decided to hire Owen for coaching me:

Oct. 8, 2014 | 11:04 p.m.

I put the hand on the equity calculator, and I should have called... needed 25%, and I had 26%, which is a call, but the problem is that it's a FT, so not sure if it was the moment to call or not. I still think that donking turn with a small bet was the right play to make him fold all his bluffs and to stop him to get a free card on river...

looks like the days off I took to study my game and watch videos paid off. 2 FTs this week. The problem: I keep getting coolered off on the FTs. I've never lived anything similar before. Yesterday, qualified for the superjueves (250€ buy in) and made it to the final table. 8.8k € on top and ended up 9th... A couple of hands that I have a lot of doubts (especially this one I'm gonna post at the end), and then, with 12 bbs, I push BU with AQo, and BB pays with AK... no miracle and only 770€... It's quiet desperating. The good thing is that one of the things we were looking with Owen on the last coaching, was what to do when in advanced fases of tournaments I got a big stack (I used to blow it really easyly). This time, got 2nd in chips with 35 left, and kept it all the way, which makes me happy. I corrected the leaks I had when this used to happen, so it's good news, means my game keeps improving. Now, here's the hand. Please note it's FT:

http://weaktight.com/7035406

 I think there's 3 mistakes:

a) I should have 3bet preflop

b) I should have donk turn

c) I should have paid river

Opinions?

Since i cant edit, I forgot to mention that we were 5 players left, but there was 4 tickets!

Sept. 25, 2014 | 11:26 p.m.

Today was my worst day of poker in ages... I didn't play my a-game and, on top of that, variance has hit me really hard... Had one of the worst bad beats I remember: satellite for the superjueves 250€. 5 players left, I'm third in chips, but since it's a hyperturbo everyone is under 7 bbs. I'm on BB with QQ, and Sb, who is last, pushes. I instacall, and he shows 92o. River gives him flush and I'm so short that next hand I'm out.

I'm gonna stop playing until sunday, and I'm gonna spend the next 2 days watching videos, reviewing hands, and reading "raiser's edge", which I began and left after 70 pages. I need to stop playing and go back to basics and improving my game!

Sept. 25, 2014 | 11:25 p.m.

Desperation. That's the best word that describes my aim today. Again, another final table (big 30€) that I'm out prematurely with bad beats. First, TT Vs 45o, and after, 77 vs A6 on board 6T246... It's really desperating how variance is hitting me on FTs. In the last month, since I began my coach with owen, I got a ROI of 66,2%, but it really fucks me up to know it could be much more if I could run just a bit better in Fts... The good part is that I'm still enjoying (and every time more and more) studyng and watching videos, and I feel that my knowledge about the game is skyrocketing. Let's hope this turns into even better results. In the meantime, I'm just happy to keep learning.

Sept. 25, 2014 | 2:47 a.m.

Just a quick update. I keep getting good results, but I've realized I need to stop focusing on other things than poker when I'm playing, it stress me and push my tilt (although I'm doing very much better lately). In other news, I'm playing LAPT Lima in october! I asked for staking, and only have a 9% left, so even if it doesn't fill, I'll pay it myself :) It's gonna be my second lapt, being Chile last year where I ended up 70/1024. Hope I can do even better this time!

Sept. 23, 2014 | 7:53 p.m.

Hi tacohead! I downloaded flop inspector, and I get a message "A Java Exception has ocurred" every time I try to use it. I use windows 7 64bits, and I downloaded the Windows 64-bet version. Any idea of why this is happening? I'd like to try this software. Thanks!

Sept. 20, 2014 | 3:21 p.m.

How an mtt player can use pt4 to study his game through his database? Its easy for cash players with leakfinder, but for mtts?

Sept. 20, 2014 | 6:03 a.m.

Looks like FTs keep comming, but I always get coolered or badbeated there... Today did final table on stars.com, in the 22 6-max. Ended up 5th, when my 99 ran into KK... I'd like for once to ship a tourney!! Still, really happy with my game and how I am evolving since the coaching!

Sept. 19, 2014 | 11:11 p.m.

Played awful today on .es. Tilted the first half hour and when my tilt was over, I was short on the few tournies left. Still, managed to do a FT on stars.com on the 11$ 4k gted. Which is good cause the metagame is so different than .es and I managed to adapt good!

Comment | vanway commented on Poker and Silence

Nice post and very interesting topic. When I read about this, I compare it with the background I come from: rock'n'roll. I've released records, I've done tours, and when the subject comes up, the common question is: did you have a lot of groupies. The comparison, that at this moment you might thing that is stupid, is that non common jobs are unknown for the masses, and that makes them subjectable to critiscm because people is dumb on the work behind. I mean: if the masses think about Motley Crue they will think about sex and drugs. If the masses think about colman, they will think about the millions won. But the masses won't think about the hours that motley crue were practicing or Colman was studying. And the problem here is that the only way you have to make people understand that poker is a game which requieres a lot of study is through the media, but the media is not interested in that, so that creates a paradox that makes very difficult that poker becomes an accepted math (or logic if you prefer) game to the masses. Certainly, Colman's attitude doesn't help... Poker needs more "rockstars", but clever ones (if that makes sense).

Sept. 18, 2014 | 4:19 a.m.

Great video as always, Espen! question: On minute 7:30, when we throw the overbet on the turn (which I think it's a really cool play), what do we do on river if he flats the turn? (both in case another club comes or another club doesn't come). Thanks!

Sept. 17, 2014 | 3:58 p.m.

The up is gone, but my game still remains. I'm doing a lot of deep runs, which is good, but right now losing a lot of flips, which makes my numbers shit. Still, my I'm feeling that my game has improved a lot, and I'm looking forward to keep improving. I'm also using my HUD much more, and this helps a lot too, since befor I started the coachings, I almost didnt use it. Today I got coaching again and I'm looking fordward!
