Aria Daily $125 Spot...

For those unfamiliar with the Aria daily event it is a $125 buy-in, 10k starting stacks and 30-minute blinds.
The first 4 levels are playable, but the structure speeds up very quickly and often becomes a shove fest at most tables.

The field varies from season to season, but generally draws 100-250 players.
These players range from new players to some local grinders and everybody in between with an occasional sighting of high stakes pros and celebs.

Approx 26 remain, pays 11.
Blinds 1k/2k 300-ante
8-handed table
5,400-in the main pot
30k stack (15bbs)
1st to act, UTG+2
AdKd

I opened to 5k (the calling ranges of players at this table, and this event in general, are inelastic regarding bet sizing)

LJ, middle aged man who bets/raises large with big holdings and calls with broadway cards and middle pocket pairs (77-JJ), and plays straight-forwardly post flop, flats with 32k.

Main pot- 15,400
25k - My stack
27k - LJ stack

HU flop of Jh9h3c

Oop how do you approach these SPR's in general, and specifically vs this type of opponent?

I decided to check and jam over his bet depending on the size, physiological and verbal reads that I received. Unfortunately, he bet 13k into 15.4k and seemed comfortable with the situation. He gave me a genuine smile when I said "Well that's not what I expected. Why such a small bet?" He took away my play and I laid it down.

I know that open shoving in these spots is the preferred play by many to avoid post flop decision making, but I find so much information is available at this level that I find this play my standard.

Thanks in advance.
