Hi guys. Great news; had a good winning session yesterday. Brought in for 500 and cashed out 2500. Really focussed on isolating players when I had value hands in position and avoiding mediocre hands in early positions and out of position. Made a conscience effort to truly identify players limp and raise ranges.A few hands/spots;

1/3 blinds. hero on button with AcQd stack off 600. Straddle utg 10, double straddle 20. Folds round to hero, raises 70. Villain (1200 stack) on double straddle calls. He is one of the better players at the table, young and aggro, not afraid to bluff. Flop 10 4 8 all diamonds. Check check. Turn 6 diamonds. Villan bets 100. Hero calls. River villan shoves. Hero... thought long and hard about this one!

Second notable hand. Folds round to hero (1400 stack) on button with Qc9c. Hero raises to 15. Sb and bb both call. Flop q 6 5. Chk chk hero bet 30. Sb calls. Turn 9. Chk hero bets 55. Villan (2k stack)raises to 145. Hero calls. River A. Villan bets 250. Hero... villan has been running very bad on evening and is also a good younger player on the tighter side although not afraid to fire bluffs.

Thanks again for your help/advice

Sorry, few more queries. As mentioned, i've been working on some ranges based on what i assume villans are raising/limping with.

Obviously i want to be most active here on the button and cuttoff. With the table playing 9 handed, there is always action prior to coming to me in these positions.

Firstly, what should my action/range be assuming we see 4 limps before us. I've contructed a range which obviously includes premium holdings, but in general, should we be raising QJ,KJ,A9 etc. here? With lower pocket pairs, i'm assuming to limp behind to see a cheap flop with a big pair. Should we be raising on the button with 98 suited if it's limped to us?

Secondly, there's often a raise to £25 in EP, and again, 3-4 callers of the original raise. I understand this is based on the raisers early position range, but what should we be looking to iso with late position? A10 suited on the button? do we look to iso or call and take a flop?

BigFiszh/twinskat - Thank you both for replying.

And one last thing to think about: If everyone is playing the same game as you seem to be,

" I've been trying to sneak in to see cheapish flops with suited connectors/small pairs etc, and play my big hands fast."

then what you are left with is everyone trying to cooler each other

This is exactly right. I've been playing around with my hand ranges and their calling had ranges this week. I agree - I need to stick to what i know as opposed to getting dragged into playing a similar game to my opponents. As you rightly said, the more people in the pot the lower chance each person has of winning, which is actually basic stuff, but think I've got myself too involved with the action in the game.

I'm playing again Friday, and will keep a note of any interesting spots/dynamics.

Thanks again

Hi everyone,

Played a lot of poker 7 years ago at uni online and live. Started to play live again at an action packed home game which runs every week. The game is loose, everyone wants to see flops, 2-3 decent young players, the rest wealthy regs. I've lost 4/5 sessions and wanted some pointers on where I could look to improve/take advantage of the table.

Overview of game; standard raises (when there is no straddle, which is usually £6 or £10) is £20-£25 opening, £35-£40 when there is a straddle, and £50-£75 when there has been a few callers after the straddle. Majority of players will not fold flush draws or open ended straight draws at any cost, and they also like to through a big bluff in there a few times a night. If they miss draws, they aren't afraid to put you under pressure with a big river bluff. I've seen huge pots showndown and won with second pair. Very little four betting takes place. I know this game is beatable; the players see too many flops, pay too much for draws, and often can't fold the worst hand.

Firstly, what should my standard approach be? I've been trying to sneak in to see cheapish flops with suited connectors/small pairs etc, and play my big hands fast. I'm slightly confused how i should be playing the broadway parts of my range? Should I be 3 betting big in position? i.e. Should i be 3 betting KQ on button after mid position raise here, or call and hit the flop, and milk the K7-K10 etc.

Here's a few hands so far;

Hand 1

Hero BB with £600, Villan early position £2000. Hero KK. Villan raises early position to £35, two callers, hero raises to £170 on BB. Flop Q 10 3 (two hearts - I do not have a heart) I dwell for a bit and shove, he snaps with Q10 off.

Hand 2

Hero on BB with £1500, Villan early position with approx £700. Villan raises to 25, 4 callers, Hero calls on BB with Q7 spades. Flop J 5 8 spades. I lead out (hoping to get value from all pairs and draws) for £40. Villan shoves for just over £600. Hero calls. Villan A spades 4 clubs. Turn, spade.

Hand 3 (i know i played this terribly)

Hero £500 on cutoff. Folds to hero and raises with 75 suited to £25. SB and BB call. flop 6 8 Q. SB bets £50, BB calls, Hero raises to 190. SB shoves, BB folds. Hero calls. Turn/river blank. SB shows 66.

I hope you can gauge the madness of the game, and look forward to hearing how i can target this type of game.

Thanks
