Hi Nuno,

Thanks for the response. That certainly makes sense. I think incorporating those combos into my river checking range is something I need to implement more often.

I got into a similar situation HU vs. a LAG friend of mine at 50NL (130bb effective). I raised Q7o and he flatted. Flop Q52cc. He checked, I checked. Turn 7s. He led $2 into $3, I raised to $8, he called. River was a third club (rank is escaping me, but it didn't pair board and I still had top two). He checked, I bet $13 into $19, and he shoved. I tanked forever and called and he had J4cc. Thus, I can see the value of having this balanced range.

Hi Nuno,

Great job on the video.

Regarding the J7o hand where you c/r river on 9Q784hhh...

I understand the logic behind a turn c/r, especially with the looming threat of a river bet by us on various scare cards, but are we really checking many value combos planning on a riv c/r given that villain checked back turn? Wouldn't we lead two pair or better combos on river once villain checks assuming most 9x and weak Qx are checking river?

I feel like our range is heavily skewed towards bluffs with blocker combos in this spot. I'm not entirely sure an overbet on river is better, but I feel like there are some turn combos in our range that might overbet river if we perceive villain is checking back weak Qx or J9+.

It's pretty clear that Villain doesn't have too many hands that can stand a c/r, so maybe it doesn't matter regarding balance. All in all, I love the logic and really wish villain bet turn lol.

Very first hand of the review. Would you be opposed to shoving the river given your analysis of his range and the fact that straights are very much in ours, or given that you feel that we don't have sets in our range (we would raise turn) and would most likely flat two pair combos, do you think a raise here is spewy sine we're polarized between QT and air?

Calling with a Jack here just boggles my mind but that's why I suck at PLO.

Post | SG526 posted in NLHE: Constructing 3B and Calling Ranges

Hey Guys,

I have a question regarding constructing 3B/Calling Ranges.

I've been watching Vincent's GTO and range construction videos as it applies to HU play, and trying to do the same for 6Max/FR.

I remember reading in Harrington's online book that he preferred to value 3B with hands that comprised the top 25% of hands versus a given range with the hands having at least 55% equity vs the given range, call OOP with hands that had 48-55% equity, call IP with hands that had 45-55% equity, and light 3B hands worse at a 2:1 ratio value:light. That may or may not be solid advice, but it is a starting point for discussion.

Vincent's 3B range suggestion of 20% vs a 100% SB min-raise in HU play is another starting point, and he advocated having a 1.1-1.5:1 bluff to value ratio. He didn't really discuss what his ideal equity with ranges should be, but his 20% range has 55% equity vs the 100% open.

What do you guys think?

Here's an example of what I've been trying to construct. I've been playing a lot of 4-handed deep-stacked 50NL versus very LAG opponents. In the following hand, I'm in the SB and I estimate the CO to be opening a 35% range:

22+, A2s+, K5s+, Q7s+, J7s+ ,T7s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s, A5o+ ,K9o+, Q9o+, J9o+, T9o

I've comprised the following 3B range: JJ+, 33-22, AQs+, A4s-A2s, KQs ,QTs-Q9s, J9s+, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 76s, 65s, AKo

This comes to slightly more than 25% of the 466 combos in Villain's range and has 53.14% equity versus that range. Does this seem like a good range? Am I covering enough boards? How should my range change at say 100bb (the game is typically 100-200bb deep)? Am I thinking about this correctly?

All input would be fantastic. Thank you.

Why would we remove ATo on the river solely to hit our target 1-alpha calling range number of 75 hands on the river when ATo and ATs are effectively the same hand on the river? It seems to me we should be removing ATs as well or including ATo.
