Variance is just a factor that can have a lot of large values in poker due to the payout being "n" units away from the actual EV of a situation.
I would try not to be too put off by it.

This may or may not be helpful depending on your Math ability. But you could do some basic Variance/Standard deviation calculations based on your database of n number of hands.
I believe this is mentioned in "Mathematics of Poker" also.

Post | Wodgy posted in PLO: Is PLO micro 2nl-25nl very soft?

I've made a semi transition to PLO from NLHE where I've been beating 2nl,5nl,10nl and PLO just seems incredibly soft at these limits. E.G. People GII with 8 high flush draws, people can't find the fold button on 2 tone straight boards with bottom set.
Only played 6k hands so far but I've been GII good 95% of the time and I would take a guess that I'm winning around 25-30bb/100 over this small sample. Using some maths it's likely i'm a winning player even with such a small sample.

Anybody else having this experience?

Does anybody actually implement calculations of variance, z values, Standard Deviation etc into there reviews of hand databases/results?

Cheers. Currently a winning 2nl, 5nl, 10nl player looking to be ahead of the field when i take the trip up to 25nl (hopefully) in a few months.

Any recommendations on the best way to "study" this book?

On chapter 2 so far where the math is pretty straight forward up to where I am, but are there specific techniques people used (people who have completed the book) to undestand the concepts fully and impliment them into your game in such a way?
I will be spending around 1 hour 45 minutes per day during my travelling time on this book back and forth work.

PS I have the neccessary math to understand most of the concepts.

Regards.

I understand this. I mean, the average micro reg at 10nl and below mainly utilises an ABC TAG/Nit approach and I feel regs can be just as profitable to play against as fish at these limits

Has anybody actually had a thought like this before.
You see tables with 35+% vpip 6 max tables with queues and 25%+ vpip 9 max tables with queues for obvious reasons.
But being as most regs/multi tablers at these limits are "bad" or "learning like us" I think it can be as profitable to sit at reg tables exploiting there tendencies and giving a "fishy" image.
I regularly sit at tables like these and play even as high as 39%vpip 33%pfr and notice a considerable win rate.
Any other thoughts on this?

Regards.

Comment | Wodgy commented on Another Range Question

Thanks for the responses. Ye i've seen Djunkell and Cameron Couch vids and Steve paul and Felipe opening/ 1 vids. Learned alot.
Im pretty good at math so I should understand and be able to apply "most" of MOP.
My knowledge/ understanding of poker theory in general is pretty good.
I guess my question mainly relates to what limit will I start constructing a decent range. Maybe 25nl?

Regards.

Post | Wodgy posted in NLHE: Another Range Question

Any recommended books etc on ranges? Beating 2nl/5nl comfortably without a "constructed" range as such.
Just ordered Bill Chen s MOP but i'm just wondering if there are any other helpful books?

On the last hand with KK how do you have more 5s than he does?

Post | Wodgy posted in NLHE: A basic range at 10nl and below

How basic can a range be to beat these limits?
I mean, I havn't really constructed a range and i beat 2nl and 5nl pretty easily. I basically just 3 bet polarized in BB and IP and 3 bet linear OOP since I expect more calls. Ofcourse, my initial opening ranges are pretty standard.
Has anyone actually constructed a range for these limits? Is there a point?

Regards.

Cheers guys, I also checked a few youtube vids previously of Galvin Bay (midstakes player with one of the highest winrates playing the micros).
I normally play a very value heavy ABC game as expected. Like 13/11 9 FR, 22/18 6 Max.
Tried a more "looser" approach to exploit some typical players there and went on a 7 buyin loss streak over 2-3 days. Although I don't really care as I think I made the correct decisions and definately had alot of bad beats. I think I typically prefer to play a more solid TAG/NIT game there instead.
When my postflop game improves maybe i'll adapt again if im not already at higher limits.

Ah right cheers man. Ye I started watching some Cameron Couch micro zoom videos. Pretty good start. I'll check them out.

Where to start? :)
Micros player at the moment playing 2nl, 5nl. Very good at math, decent at analytic s.
A brief introduction I know lol.
I'll add that its nlhe and plo that im interested in.
I would say im a winning player. Although at the moment I have no software to confirm this as I just use Jivaro. I don't like to look at my bankroll. However, I do know I have atleast 20+ buyins for 5nl
I have a huge interest in learning the game as much as possible.
I have a decent amount of knowledge e.g positional awareness, mathematics, ranges etc etc.
I just love the game and really want to advance.

What videos should I start with? Are there any good micro videos etc?

Thank you.
