Post | joeclown posted in PLO: PLO200 X/C or X/Ship Turn

A spot I struggle quite a bit:
When is it better to x/c medium hands + draw like this one OTT vs x/ship and end the hand right there.
Villain is competent reg with cbet 60% flop and turn so I don t expect him to bet turn with KJ9 type of hands and don't know what to do against a ship but bets more polar'ish.
Cant decide between theory "correct" x/c because he wont call a lot worse/fold better and
protection + don't have to play river oop.

Is there a NR 5?: He ships to prevent you from playing perfectly? (lesser of 2 evils)

Dont know anything about both turn strategies so my only assumption for your river range is:
Exclude most Acc, KQ and some Qcc from your range -> I give your range about 35-40% flushes OTR

EV Ship:
You prevent him from bluffing any 4 so you call about 60% of the time.
Against flush + enough straights to get to 60% call% he has ~34% equity
EV = Fold%POT + CALL%(Equity(POT + 2BET)-BET)=231

EV X/C, X/F:
When he checks you ship any flush + enough bluffs to make him indifferent from calling his hand?!
EV = (Flush% + Bluff%(little less than 1/2 Flush%)* 0 + Check%*POT=218

This is only considering his hand against a quite unknown range from you but still a fair point I hope. When he checks I assume you play perfectly against his hand and ship flushes + good bluffs/blockers and xb straights which lets you realize more equity than your range has vs his hand. But when he ships you cant bluff your "good" airish hands but are forced to call quite a few straights you would xb otherwise.

Yeah first time I get to see PLO8 content ever...good job!

Wondering about PLO8 HU preflop play:
You openfold quite a lot in the SB even though the BB only VPIPs 50-60% (didnt see the position stats but I guess he plays more hands in the SB than BB)
First example: min 4:40 KsJh7c4d
PPT says top 70% hand HU...with probably poorer playability than many hands in this region.
Still:

Say he 3bets 25% -> you fold
He defend calls his 25%-70% (quite generous estimate) hands
Folds 30%

You have 45% equity against his calling range and need to realize 75% of your equity for EV 0
Being IP and considering that he 3bets a lot of his strong hands this should be possible even with this crappy hand.

In the SB i play PLO8 similar to PLO...opening 85-95% against most opponents (not 3bet more than ~30% or defend more than say 70-75%)
Is this a good strategy or am I underestimating that position in PLO8 is often worth less because one side hands can barrel relentlessly and dont let me realize the 70-80% of equity of my crappy hands even IP.
