Hi There!

I'm what you would call an anonymous spectator at this site, but I'm still reading a lot of posts in the forum, and I've been playing a lot of poker in my spare time.

I won some tournaments. I've cashed a lot of times. The biggest cash being around 9,000 $.
I consider myself a decent player. I've been playing for 5+ years, and I've been watching a lot of training videos at various coaching sites, read a lot of articles and played a lot of hands. I'm constantly trying to improve my game and my attitude and mental focus when playing.

However, I'm currently going through a rough stretch, that has lasted since around October 2014. Since then I've won nothing. Zero.... Nada....

I've gone over my game again and again. I've checked hand histories through Hold'em Manager. I've experimented with different strategies, mainly in mid- and late game stages, but nothing seems to work for me.

I'm no more than average to Hold'em Manager, so I'm not quite sure where to check how good/bad I'm doing. I've read that an indicator is the ALL-in EV for "bustout hands only". When filtering for bustout hands in tournaments I get a somewhat break-even ALL-in EV line, but a straight declining negative Net-Won line, that's around a total of -7 mill. chips.

It seems as if every time, for the past 5 months when I've gotten all-in in tournaments I've been badbeatet out of it (exaggeration!)

So any help, guidance or advice to a pokerplayer, that's mentally knocked to the canvas?

There is still plenty to work with at the FT, but I made it to the FT at the 55$ 90K on Stars yesterday and cashed for 3600$ going out at 6th :)

MTT: The mental game in the late stages of a tournament. Some of the struggles that pro's have had before having build a sufficient bankroll, when the $ ment the world to them, and how to cope with that while playing :)

I like the idea. Good game strategy in the late stages is golden!

Thanks Nitty!

Exactly how I feel like whenever HEM shows BB under 20! I get a bit panicky, and want to get above 30 or 40 BB to be "sure" that you can survive until the FT or go deeper in the tournament.

I'll write that "protect your stack" behind the ear, and think of it the next time :)

It's always good to know that I'm not the only one having felt like this 😊

I constantly find myself checking the prizes and payouts, so perhaps I should really try not to look at it. It might affect my decisions a bit to much!

I'll check their vids out, thanks!

Thanks James.

A win in a little tournament would definitely benefit my current bankroll, and perhaps that's the reason why I get to scared at close to the FT.

Are there some good Essential pro's with videos on how they attack situations close to the FT and the late stages of tournaments? Some you would recommend?

I guess I'll have a laugh at this post as soon as I bing my first tournament. I'll let you all know then 😊

Hi there.

This is my first post at RIO.

I've been playing poker on/off for a period of 4-5 years now, but I seem to have some mental game issues in the late stages of the tournaments when there's less than 25 players left.

An example from yesterdays session:

I made it deep in 10€ tournament and with 14 players left I'm in the top at a 1st or 2nd place having around 35 bb in my stack. However, I managed to loose it all and go out on a 11th place.

I noticed, that when I dropped to around 20 bb, I always think "Shit, I fucked up, I'm not going to win this tournament now w. only 20 bb".

I also seem to respect all of the other players way to much, always thinking, "shit, he's probably having AK or KK-AA" nearly everytime they raise, if they just have somewhat of decent VPIP/PR stats.

I now I'm being to anxious, and a bit scared, and I don't know if its because I need a bit more FT experience compared to how much experience I have in the early, mid and later stages of a tournament.

Anyone have any suggestion to what may help me next time I'm sitting deep in a tournament? Get up, get away from computer for 2 min? Perform some mental exercises? Anything!

Martin :)
