Im surprised to see a lot of negativity in this thread. Especially on a poker training site.  Its easy to find the way someone will fail at any endeavor but that doesn't mean it's an impossible venture. The fact is many players live off "just poker". Of course everyone's situation is different but it seems to me Wade is taking it seriously. Yes, BRM should be a priority. If you're getting coaching, studying consistently, logging in the hours, getting results, amd reevaluating then go for it.

First of all whether or not you're going to play poker FT or not, you have to device a plan to get out of a job you hate. That's #1 imo. Maybe its because i have a FT job that i hate but i think most people think of it like a job that sucks. Some jobs are just terrible and cause more stress and misery than $$ is worth. When you hate ur job even time off isnt as good cuz you're still thinking that soon you'll be back. That's not living.

So IMO, if poker is what you want and you understand the risk/reward. Go ahead. Manage ur BR. Keep improving. Work on the mental game. Manage your money wisely (think retirement and ).  And work hard on being your own boss. Also, keep on eye out on legislation and that your other options are still available.

The majority of people are more comfortable with a " secure" job (doesnt exist) and think this is the only way. But we know better. After all This is a training site with people who are doing it now. Amd there are a ton more playing poker online and live everywhere.

Post | Robben posted in Chatter: going to vegas this week

Anyone have tips on traveling to vegas? Like airport-hotel transportation? Safety?

Key points, im going w my g/f soon to be fiancé and she's pregnant. Suggestions on an essential member budget would be greatly appreciated.

Good shows, comedy,.magic, etc Recomended restaurants? Must see stuff?

Any 0-$200 tourneys worth playing or should i play cash games?

I won't have too much time to myself but i could play a tourney if they're worth it.

Any good vegas stories also count as tips.

-thanks

I want to update this post once a month but im going to vegas this week so I'll update til next week. I havent studied as planned but i have found a way to study that i enjoy. I made a video review of a $8 sng 180 turbo that I won for a FB group (in Spanish) and found a bunch of spots where my thought process was strange and where there were obv better options.

I figured i would give a live recording a shot and this is by far the best way ive found to really be on top of my game. I started out recording just two tables. One stt6max and the big$4.40 on stars. I was already itm and w about avg chipstack. I realized 4 stts in that i can't do live recording and multi table yet. The stts were a disaster lol. So i focused on just the big 4.40.

Having to explain my thoughts for every hand on every street forced me to stay on top of my ggame Like most people i have a love/hate relationship with criticism. I want the truth but i secretly hope there's nothing to criticize (harshly at least). Anyways, i found myself making better decisions than usual and really focusing on why i was doing x or y in every spot. I need a lot more practice recording because i didnt sound certain in some spots and i hesitated a lot, although that might have to do with the video being in spanish (spanglish really) and i study poker in english and think in english when i play. I plan on doing a lot more of these in english and hopefully get some decent feedback.

I plan on editing that video and recording the audio in english. I marvelously donked of my chips (70bbs) w 60/6000 left to the eventual winner. I knew the villain was competent judging by OPR and thought he would fold. Anyway. No spoilers haha.

I'll post the video here when i come back from vegas.

I'll also post my graph and how ive lost like 80 avg buyins lol.

Not sure what you mean by a whatever spot. Do you mean that either option is fine? A preflop resteal i call instantly but im not sure if a stop and go 2x pot is in his arsenal. I thought his range to do this was with any heart draw. Which include any. Broadway combos with. a heart and. Axh. Im not in terrible shape but is it worth risking? N

But if I do I'll let you know. Most of what I've seen is for HM2 but I still need to review the video archives well

Yeah. That is what I meant. Anything that can make playing more enjoyable. Having healthy snacks nearby counts. Water.

Maybe trying a new variation of poker will keep u on your toes more. Having to learn and pay attention to details you never thought about. It's not g

I meant A10+ and all pairs he shoves pre flop. And the question is if it was a bad fold?

This is my history for July in all MTTs and mtt_sngs on Stars. Its been a pretty good month so far. This already includes the " few scores in sngs" that I mentioned brought me to my initial BR of $1200. Tournaments 73-121 were all played last weekend. Once I have more tourneys Ill only post from July 22 on where I actually started this plan of mine.

I have changed my plans already though. I had planned to put in some hours during the week to play Cash games. But Ive been convinced that it would be better for me to specialize for now until I am a consistent winner. I chose mtts with mtts_sngs. Ill spend time during the week (when available) studying and with my GF.

I think I should mention that I had planned on focusing on Poker 7 months ago but didnt design a plan. 5 months ago we found out my GF is pregnant. We are now living together and Ill propose to her in Vegas in August (she loves Bruno Mars so we´re going to his show).

This has put things into perspective for me. I cannot keep working at a job I dont like, at an institution I dont like. If I spent half the time I do at work, doing something I love (i.e. poker) I know I can earn more than my salary, or that of my colleagues 2 levels higher. More importantly, Ill be a lot happier because I enjoy the game, the competition, there's so much to learn. It never gets old because its always evolving, and it does so at an alarming pace!

I cant really say how many tournaments and mttsngs Ill play a month for my plan. Judging by last weekend I think I might be able to post around 300. But Im still only gonna stick to saying 15 hours instead of 18 and and 5 studying during the week.

Gl. and GL me.

I think that the word GRINDING has negative effects on a psychological level. I think theword applies more to live poker and particularly pre poker boom. Dont add unnecessary stress. Maybe improve your setup. It has helped me enjoy playing more.

Post | Robben posted in Chatter: plans and commitment

I am designing a plan to become a better poker player. I am setting goals focusing on hours I'll play and hrs I'll study. Setting bankroll money aside for RIO (essential for now), books (especially for the mental aspect since i have RIO for the game), software (i have pt4 holdem full but want to get flopzilla or anything that willhelp.maybe even change to HEM2). At some point when i can afford it i want to get coaching as well.

I am "starting" off with a bankroll of $1,200 coming from a few scores in 180 man turbos $2-$8 buyins.

I work at a bank in Honduras where salaries are low and the local currency loses about 5% v USD every year and might be 10% in 2014. I work from 8:30~7 on avg but sometimes its til 9pm. Most weekends are off so the majority of my play will be sat and sund with a few hours during the week if im not exhausted and feel like i can play myA game.

That said my initial plan for July and 1st week of august is weekly study hrs will be 3 and a min of 18 at the tables. i plan on playing some mtts and mtt-sngs particularly on weekends. I need a lot of study time on ICM. During the week mostly zoom $5and$10 nl

I appreciate any input on the structure of my plans or resources or anything you think might help.

Now that i put this out there i have to keep true to it.
