"There is a delicate balance to be had between daily happiness etc and
delayed gratification. I don't think anyone can pretend to have the
exact formula to what level of pain/misery we should tolerate for a
future of 'happiness' that may never arise- we may either die or get
seriously ill before then, or arrive at that point in the future only
to realise that we are still unhappy, despite having financial
freedom".

I agree that there's no perfect choice. But people should be aware of the trade-offs.

Most of the players I know who achieved financial freedom and eventually quit poker had to make sacrifices. A well-balanced life can make you much happier in the present moment than grinding incessantly, but the ones who prioritize balance might struggle financially down the line.

On the other hand, those who grind hard may retire comfortably but if they dedicate themselves solely to grinding they may miss out on a lot of happiness between their younger years and retirement. Also, deferring meaning for materialism is a gamble, and not everyone who gambles wins.

Money, although important, is only one part of your life. There's plenty of online poker players who are well past 30, couldn't hold onto a long-term romantic relationship, or didn't even put themselves in situations that allow them to meet someone.

I don't know if having a family is in your plans for the future. If it is, what I can say as a father of two young girls is that before having kids, it’s the ideal time to be aggressive and take risks (such as going all in on poker or starting a business from scratch). You can recover and bounce back more easily during this time than at any other. This is not the time to play it safe or to be a nit. The more you stick to your comfort zone, the smaller your world becomes, and most people become more boring with each passing year.

There's always a trade-off, but ultimately, the choice is yours.

While study groups can be okay, it's nearly impossible to maintain equilibrium. Each member's motivation and skill set varies.

It's never going to be truly fair since the time of the crusher is obviously more valuable than the time of the struggling grinders, even if they are all crushers one will be the best.

Your main goal has to be become a great independent learner because at the end nobody is coming to save you.

Hi, binged read all the blog :) Pretty good stuff. Greetings from a South American poker expat currently residing closeby in Cumbria. You should really come to the Lake District more if you enjoy hiking.

It's pretty cool that you found another player to study with. I play mostly 500 on Stars and my anecdotal experience was that other poker buddies want you to do well as long as that is a little bit worse than them.

Also, I found it really difficult for two players to be around the same level and I have bad experiences with players taking info away from me and when they surpass me they forget about what you did for them. I suppose that I just had crappy poker friends, but much of my improvement was due to my own research.

I checked 'The Tinder Swindler' and if you see it with a redpill lens it is amazing.
Although a douchbag, the guy knew well what type of woman to target. Mostly post wall (30+) women that were placing her last bet on finding a successful guy.
I found it hilarious when one of them confessed that she didn't find it attractive that the guy was short, but she dismissed that given his success. That goes to show that most women don't marry the guy; they marry the lifestyle.

P.S: Another cool place that accepts un vaxxed aka purebloods xD is Madeira, Portugal (4 hour direct flight from EDI). No restrictions at all! It's a pretty cool destination for the summer.

Hope you crush 2022!

Thank you for the video Uri.
Sorry to be "that guy" but on future videos please try to not lower your voice (volume) that much. At times it is very difficult to follow.

Great fan of your content!

Hey man, cool blog.
Used to race a little bit in Optimist as a kid and now I'm looking forward to own a Laser just for fun.
A guy from my hometown went to the Olympics in Laser (Julio Alsogaray) working on the side so your idea with poker is definitely doable.
I wish you the best!

I wanna stake a friend of mine for nl5k live. Im not sure what the proper way to split earnings is (other than that he should get more % the more the plays) nor what the common deals are. What do you think?

Really good video so far,i think other coaches should copy your style of "if folded i would do this,if beted i would do this" , we get much more info than just comenting on the real action.

Thanks Phil!

Thanks everyone for the comments! Dog,i dont understand this sentence "But if our read is he is not aggressive than his bluffing range will contract in most spots."

Great video so far Phill,i have learned some stuff.

@min 30:30 ,you say danfiu get it in is std. i thought his eq wasnt enough because he basically has a draw for his AA set and 86 gutshot.
do you think the 2 players (you and btn) have enough draws and a little bit of 2 pair hands?

Dec. 22, 2015 | 7:42 p.m.

your best video so far!

Sept. 22, 2015 | 12:22 a.m.

Yeah is it standard for you to call 22-66 on the small blind with a reg on the bb? You also folded 86s on the same spot. How does your SB defending range against the button look like?

Thanks

Hey guys, great video so far. I didint finish yet but i have a coupple of questions regarding A3s hand @min25.

-How you you play AxQx as SB? having AsQd can changue our line?
-As for the river,if villain doesnt has most of his AQ seems like an easy call (im not giving him AA in my eq run). If he does have AQ most of the times,it becomes closer, but in terms of blockers this is a good bluffcatcher as you guys said, and ATs becomes a bad one.
-Folding turn as Peter comented in the comments, that doesnt seems right, but i didint make equity runs/rangues for the turn so i could be wrong.

Thanks and keep em coming :) it makes it more "funny" this format, and also very interesting that the coach can hear other opinions/thoughts during the coaching session.
