Physiological response to running good

I have a problem putting in enough volume when I'm running good. I have discussed this phenomenon before in this thread. I have been keeping this issue somewhat under control, usually by pushing myself to play shorter sessions when running good, but playing more sessions.

I also have a physiological response in these spots. I feel a certain anxiety and my chest tightens up. My breathing is fine, but it's as if I have to exert a little harder to breathe. I don't know how to describe it exactly, but it's like I'm at a certain height and I'm looking down afraid of a big fall. Or like a roller coaster ride where I'm hanging on.

I have been trying to control these issues by

  • Deep breathing during sessions. Seems to help somewhat, but is of limited use.
  • Drinking lots of water. Also seems to help somewhat.
  • Writing down some things in my journal.
  • Taking a break from the session and taking long walks between sessions.

Any help here would be appreciated.
