Great content for the big picture theory...perfect for people learning the basics. Bad slides though...way too many words.

I don't think this video should be part of the "Learning Paths" series for PLO. There are too many stretches of silence where it would be helpful to discuss 'what if...' scenarios during those moments. It's also difficult to appreciate why a play is "standard" without an explanation.

I agree with Lausbub...zero in depth.

The hand analysis on the KQ997 flop was really good...it's too bad other hands weren't paused and discussed in the same way. The rest of the video wasn't very insightful.

I love RIO...literally nothing about the site I don't like.  I was a cardrunners member for years and realize RIO is so much better than CR.  For me personally, the $100/mth isn't affordable any longer.  I wish that wasn't the case, but I didn't have a choice when I cancelled my Elite plan.  Thanks for the input...I completely agree this site is superior to others...just was hoping I could sign up for an Elite membership again if the price was a little more in line with Ivey's site.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  Hopefully in the future I will be able to become an Elite member again at RIO.

I noticed today that the price of the "Masters" plan on IveyLeague.com is $75/mth or $500 for a year.  This is much more affordable than RIO Elite membership.  Are there any plans to reduce the RIO Elite membership price to match the "Masters" (highest plan) on Phil Ivey's site?

The main reason I am asking is because I joined this site over a year ago as an Elite member, but had to cancel my membership because I couldn't afford the $100/mth, but I would def sign up again if the Elite membership was only $500 for a year which is what IveyLeague.com is offering for their highest plan right now.

I hate to admit it because I love this site, but if the price of the Elite plan stays $100/mth, I will probably have to switch over to IveyLeague for the more affordable "Masters" membership.

I understand that the stable of pros are different on both sites, but I don't think there's enough of a difference to justify paying more than double the price for an annual membership on RIO vs IveyLeague.

Anyone have a good 4-colour deck mod suggestion for "6 card omaha" that's compatible with FTP?  Looked everywhere and can't find anything...so frustrating.

My old deck mod was Artibus deck from tiltbuster, but it doesn't work with the 6 card omaha games...with this deck mod, only one of the six cards is shown in your hand and you can't see the other five cards. (It still works with 5-card omaha games though)

I hate the default deck the FTP software gives because it's much harder to multitable without the bright 4 colour deck of a good deck mod.

Thanks for any suggestions...

If a notification system isn't feasable, please at least ask pros to take a quick look at comments (maybe once a week) in their older videos for any new comments/questions.

-This would be a big plus to an already good experience.

Post | fitzroy posted in Chatter: Pros responding to older videos...
I just wanted to say that my #1 positive review about this site is the fact that the pros do a pretty good job of responding to comments of their videos. It would be nice if the maker of a video just checked back periodically to their old videos for newer comments. Some members who just joined, but watched an older video don't get the benefit of having their questions answered by that pro. Other members, like me, who are trying to learn a new game and went back a month or two to watch those videos don't seem to get a response either.

I know the pros are busy, but it doesn't seem like each pro has too many videos out where spending a couple minutes even just once a week scrolling through an old video to answer a recent post should take too much time...especially since some of the videos only have one or two comments anyway.

Overall, I am very pleased with the participation of the pros in responding to comments about their videos though.

In light of this post on 2+2 about how only 3 out of 25 of the highest volume 100plo regs on stars actualy made money, do you guys still think 100plo is profitable?

Looks like you are still making it work, Sam...congrats on your March.

I wish I could offer some optimism. I'm actually glad to see I'm not alone in this feeling either. Sorry to hear about your downswing. I'm 60bi below EV over my last 20k hands alone. I've never once thought online poker was rigged in anyway, but after being kicked in the balls 100 times in a row, I can't discount the fact that there is something else at work here.

April 2, 2013 | 12:06 a.m.

I agree that some kind of non-poker income is mandatory. The stress from a downswing is so unbearable that it can literally take over all aspects of your life if you aren't properly rolled.

Aside from financial reasons, a source for non-poker income helps to create balance in your life so that everything isn't 24/7 poker.

Good Luck....keep us updated on how it's going.

Also, what is an optimal redline in zoom? I see some winning regs have upward sloping or flat redlines...is that optimal?

Is this game even beatable in light of gui166's post of 100plo rake yesterday on 2+2?

Comment | fitzroy commented on plo variance
I've only been playing PLO for two months (played 6-max NL for years), but I've had a 20bi swing in a session on two separate days already, so I wouldn't think 8bi win or loss is out of the ordinary. I think it's proportional to how many hands a day you play too. For example, over this 20bi swing, I played approx 5k hands that day.

I also think stop-loss is player dependent. I'd pick a number based on when you think it bothers you and affects your decisions for the rest of that session. Alternatively, I've read in various posts that it's a good idea to not check results at all over a session. That way you are only concerned with making the best decision and not the financial outcome.

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any advice about the EV adjusted stat in HM2 for PLO 6-max?

I'm currently running 19bi below allin EV at $0.5/$1 6-max PLO. Is this normal variance? Am I unlucky? Or is there something I'm doing wrong?

I've played 60K hands over this sample and play a 23/17/3.5 game with a 3b of 9%. Despite this stat, I'm up 3bb/100 over this sample. Is it normal to be 20bi below or above allin EV? What is the probability of this happening in only 60K hands?

I'm new to PLO so I'm not sure how to interpret this.

Thanks.

Does anyone have any advice for optimal SB and BB VPIP for PLO 6-max? fwiw, my stats so far in FTP rush PLO $0.5/$1 are 24/18/3.5 with a 9% 3b after 63K hands.

I feel like I'm spewing from the blinds, but am not sure...(I just started learning PLO two months ago). My VPIP by position is listed below:

BTN = 37.6%
CO = 24.7%
MP = 17.3%
EP = 14.7%
SB = 23.5%
BB = 21%

I'm showing a profit from every position except the blinds. Also, if anyone has an idea what a good "loss rate" from each blind is, please let me know. Right now I'm losing 55bb/100 from the BB and losing 33bb/100 from the SB.

Any advice is appreciated.

Good content Leo...one suggestion when doing a video with more than 4 tables, please indicate which table you are talking about by number. Many times I find it hard to follow the action when you hold the mouse over a table and say "the table there". It's much easier to number all the tables then refer to them as "Table 1, Table 2 etc..."

Also, to fill the downtime, I'd like to hear you discuss the worst or best hand you would take a line with in the previous hand played. For example, you called a 3b oop late in the video, I'd be curious to know in that spot what's the range of hands you are doing that with and why you don't fold or 4b it etc. And maybe what the overall gameplan is in that spot. That would fill the lag between hands I think (along with random other other "What if.." scenarios)

Post | fitzroy posted in Chatter: Problem Loading Earlier Videos
There seems to be a problem loading earlier videos after you do a filter by game type.

For example, when I filter for all the PLO videos and scroll to the bottom, the link is there to "load more videos", but nothing happens when you click on it.

To get around this, I have to load all the early videos for all the game types, then manually scroll up to the older PLO videos I'm looking for.

I was using IE9 on windows Vista, not sure if that's the problem.

Feb. 6, 2013 | 6:58 a.m.

I was thinking the same thing....PLO is allin so often I would think it would be harder to maintain a good redline without sacrificing anything.

I suggest reading the "PLO from scratch" Series on Donkr. It gives a great guide how to play preflop (hand selection, position etc) and what optimal stats you should have in PLO in general when first starting out.

Post | fitzroy posted in Chatter: Redline in PLO vs Holdem
I've heard some people suggest that your redline in HM (non-showdown $) doesn't really matter in order to be a winning player. I then read Dusty Schmidt's blog where he says redline is super important and should always have a positive slope like his does.

Two questions...
1) Does having a positively sloped redline increase profit?
2) Should there be redline differences between PLO vs Holdem in terms of optimal slope?

I am looking for 6-max answers if that matters at all.

If #2 isn't possible to answer, let's assume that the same player played both holdem and PLO...should he expect a similar redline in both games?

Thanks for the advice Nikolaj....I'm just learning PLO. This seems like good advice to me. Does anyone disagree with any of this ballpark advice?

Jan. 23, 2013 | 7:04 a.m.

I just bought HM2 two weeks ago and the lag on my computer is almost unbearable. It's better since the most recent update, but much laggier than HM1. FWIW I use Windows Vista, 4GB Ram, quad core 2.4GHz processor .

I would also be curious what $0.50/$1.00 6-max rush (or zoom) PLO would produce?

I'm not an instructor, but I've had coaching and my coach said he actually learns too while coaching his students. Also, it provides some level of guaranteed income and acts as a break from the daily grind. I would guess these advantages outweigh the minor downside of revealing your thought processes that only a fraction of the player pool will see anyway.

Is there a way to show your HUD on these replayer videos so that you can point out a statistical leak and how to exploit it?
