live 4handed 20/40.

Hero is SB with 14k and villain covers.

Preflop action: Villain raises CO to 150, btn folds, hero 3bets sb to 500 with A8ss9T. bb folds and villain calls.

Flop (1050) 9c8c3d
Hero bets 1k, villain raises to 4k.

Played a lot with villain and he is competent, he probably views me the same, but it doesn't really matter at this point on this board. He commits, and now since I'm out of position, do I call or jam. If I call, pot will be 9k with 9500 behind. Or I should just get it in here? If I was in position, how would that affect my decision?
Thanks

Live game, 5 handed, 10/20. CO ( villain in the hand) limps, I limp BTN with Ac 4s 5c 6c. SB was being pretty agrro with 3betting, so I limped BTN behind wanting villain in the pot. SB pots to 100, BB folds, villain calls and I complete. We are little over 6k effective. Anyways, to the flop

4c 6h 8c ($320)

They both check to me, and I bet 250. SB folds and villain pots it to $1070. He is a fish, but on the passive side, and I'm 100% sure he has 75xx here, more likely with some sort of redraw. I call ip.

Turn 9d (bringing bdfd)  ($2460) he bets $2100

The pot is $2460 and we both have around $6100 to start the hand with, so around 5k behind on the turn each.

Should I isolate preflop? How should I play flop, ie. is there any merit to checking behind for deception? I think I should always peel his flop c/r. Do I have odds to call his turn bet? I will have 1/2 psb left on the river

Thanks

yeah I started hating small double pairs in PLO, I get into too many spots like these..I don't think he has AKJT though, he would certainly 3bet that preflop, or raise the flop. AQ also idk if reg plays this aggro. just one of those tough situations in PLO

Aug. 20, 2013 | 3:36 p.m.

Sam,

Yeah, usually ppl are raising top set on this flop, but, there was a third player, initial raiser, who checked flop, and he still has to act ( yeah, most of the time he will fold, but he's 100bb stack and he can check/raise and then vilain is in a great spot), but sure most of the time he will just fold. I still think we can put vilain on TTxx, cause he's in position this deep, and many players wait for the safe turn etc. Now, you said you would call and evaluate rivers. If I was in position, I think that would be great option, because I would be able to see what he does on certain rivers, and maybe even turn my hand into bluff?! (not sure about that). But, as you said, if I was ip and river came 9, Q, K, A, and he checked, I could save money if I was beat by higher set. Out of position, I think I should make my decision on the turn, fold or jam..I think river is going to be so hard to play, because of no reads, and I will have to guess whether he has a made hand which beats us, or something like JTKQ with or without fd, JT with fd, AKQT with fd, combos like that, which I think we have about 60% equity on the turn ( not sure about this, just a guess), and we are crushed by higher sets. Sure, we save money when river comes 9h and he checks behind better hand, but what about the time when we jam into him on K river and he looks us up with straight, or "hero" calls with higher set, or such situations. These spots are very tough in general, especially in zoom games sans real reads. 100bb I think I would just shove and if he has it it's whatever, but 270bb it becomes much harder.

Deep PLO is fun!

Hey Lefort,

I really liked both of yours "How to be a better poker player" videos. I've been on a big downswing lately, not thinking clearly about the game,  and your ideas, comments, and thoughts were great and made me relax more, think outside the box, relax, and, hopefully, the results will come.

Thanks again, and GL at hs plo

Post | Drasko Boskovic posted in PLO: some hands

These spots in general happen often to me, and I'm unsure what's the right play.

example 1) we are UTG and open AA78dd, HJ 3bets us, BTN cold calls, it's back to us an we 4b, they both call. Flop is KQ3r with one diamond. We have 1PSB left.. KQx smashes at least one of them hard from my experience . Let's say we are playing 1/2 game

example 2)  we open KKQJss CO and sb 3bets, it's back to us and we 4bet (we're playing 100bb). he calls. Flop is 678cc ( we have backdoor fd). He checks. We have little over 1psb, like 1.3

I go with both of my hands, but I would like to hear what you guys think, is giving a possibility even with such low SPR

Thanks

I don't think you can fold now when you picked up fd. I don't think he would bet QQxx so big here considering that you could've easily hit the straight..and if he has a straight, you have plenty of outs to hit. I would call and lead flush river, check any other. If he has QQ there are so many bad rivers for him, and you could get away cheaply with mid set. But I think turn is a call

I was oop, I bet first. Yeah, I thought the same, I have AAJJ and block many draws, so I think I should check/decide. Check/call turn

I had K high suit As Kh 4h 4c), and yeah, I wouldn't open AK44r from BTN. Idk, since blinds weren't on the laggier side, I though I could open this hand. And I block top set...

March 16, 2013 | 11:42 a.m.

I played with Villian for the first time and he seems to be tight aggressive.. a little before he opened/called 3bet bvb vs me and checkraised pot with KKQThhh on J96r for less than 100b.. His flop fold in 3b pot is 25% from a very small sample though..
Preflop I think I can go both ways, but how do you play flop?

Hi Phil,
Q679, at 11.30 mark, on Q68r flop, when it went check/check and turn was Kh. You say turn check/raise is ambitious, which I agree with. Yeah, by leading turn you extract value from worse, but you are getting in risk of being raised and then maybe having to fold that strong of a hand+draw?! What do you think about check/calling here, and would you have played this hand differently if it was cash game?
AQT3dd, vs DJK, when you hit runner nut flush on 5699J- Your hand basically has the same value as low boat, ie. 4455, 66xx or so, since he is never raising less than 95xx for value. Since he is also never raising nut flush on river ( if somehow you didn't have the nut flush), I would like to know how would you play a hand like 78xx, or A9xx on the river, assuming you play it the same until the river, like in actual hand. Does betting small to induce bluff shove make sense? I remember long time ago cts made a thread about doing this in NL, can this concept be applied for PLO?
Great videos, thanks for doing this

Jan. 3, 2013 | 4:20 a.m.

Hi Steve,
Great video.
The 33 hand, at 28.00. (1500/3000), you opened ep and got 3bet by little kraut; what do you think about folding preflop? You were raising a lot prior to this ( and yeah, you were getting great cards, but they don't know that), and they should start picking on it sooner or later. And it's hard to play this hand oop if you don't flop it. Sure you'll stack him if you hit it, but on certain boards he'll get away. So yeah, in vacuum, what do you think the best play is: 1.opening 2. Folding 3. Open/folding to 3bet?
Thanks!
