This was a great read. Your growth mindset and process-oriented approach is super inspiring, and something to strive toward. Flawless results(!), I'm curious how you're studying?

Followed on Insta. Best of luck at 1k!

February Roundup
My performance feels like it's gradually improving (even though I've not been tracking it as intended), alongside my ABI which was $145 in February. After the cost of not shot-taking aggressively was brought to my attention a couple of months ago, I decided to launch a mini-challenge wherein I sought to move up in stakes ASAP (once cleared to do so). I managed to stick the landing at 200nl in Jan/Feb, which was a nice change of pace after so many failed attempts at 100nl over the months/years! I even played my first hands at 500nl recently, although I'm not sure I'll be playing there often just yet; I noticed some risk aversion cropping up, with one hand coming to mind that I'm too ashamed to post haha.

In terms of progress towards the goals I set above, I've successfully adjusted my playing schedule, partially introduced more regular HH review, and haven't yet added another site. I don't feel too badly about the last shortcoming though, since there's been a decent amount of action on Stars at 200 and below. Goals for this month:

  • Play >100 hrs.
  • Study almost every day.
  • Add another site!
  • Build an effective warm-up routine. Dan's blog inspired this one, so shoutout to him :)

Good luck in March guys!

Let's goo, glgl Dan!

but also as a result of studying GTO daily by playing against a solution in all spots.

I'm curious how you're going about studying/drilling GTO?

First >1k winning day! While it's best to avoid being results-oriented for the most part, I think it's fine to acknowledge/enjoy milestones like this one. After all, my first 4 figure losing day is bound to sting :)

Will post a proper write-up soon.

Thanks guys <3.

My performance last week was reasonable, albeit more volatile than I'd like. Results followed suit, up ~$500. Despite a few shortcomings according to my new measurements (see above), I definitely feel like I'm moving in the right direction.

Changes to be made in the coming week/s:

  • Add another site, once I've cleared the monthly poker challenges on Stars.
  • Adjust schedule to play evenings, when games are softer.
  • Start regularly reviewing my hand histories, most likely all pots won/lost >10bb.

Somewhat tangential, but I'm starting to realize how important 'logistics' are in poker (meaning something like what, when, where, why, and how you play/study) - this coming from someone who spent the large majority of their time in poker playing micro/low-stakes zoom, with little to no study. Difficult to rank ofc, but I think the order of precedence tends to be technical -> mental -> logistical, yet it's exclusively logistical upgrades that are capable of doubling your win rate overnight (quite extreme, but consider a player moving from zoom to reg tables, or from a tough site to a softer alternative). Inevitably, all of the above are important in their own way; I'd say technical and mental game are the blocks used to build a skillful player, where logistics are responsible for leveraging that skill to maximize output (profit). freenachos has shared several resources in his blog that drives this point home for me, like graphs plotting WR by fish per table, and WR by site.

Anyway, goals are pretty much the same for this week: play 30+ hours, and continue building good study habits!

i recently found out that i can fly to Budapest without a vaccine. so it's cool that i also have the option of moving abroad again if i wish. i loved Budapest when i visited there a couple of years ago, and have a couple of Hungarian friends too.

That's cool to hear, I'm considering visiting with some friends myself. Any idea on their domestic restrictions (once you've arrived)? From the little bit of research I've done, it sounds like you're fine to enter the country, stay in hotels, go to restaurants/bars, etc. as an unvaccinated person, but you'd need a vax certificate in order to attend larger gatherings/events (>500 people in attendance)?

Anyway, best of luck this year!

What’s up RIO!

About me:
- Played poker as a small winner for ~5 years before deciding to take the game more seriously when I graduated last summer.
- Moved up from 25/50nl to 100/200nl playing close to full-time since.
- Member of NachosPoker CFP.

I feel like I'm finally on the (or a?) path - with the help of all the Nachos guys - and want to fully capitalize on the opportunity of playing 'professionally' by realizing my potential. So that's why I decided to create a thread; to challenge myself to become the best poker player I can be, and to take you with me! You can expect goals, results, reflections, etc.

The focus right now is on building systems that foster consistency; a trait I've tended to be severely lacking in. With James Clear's “Habits + Deliberate Practice = Mastery” equation in mind (I just finished reading Atomic Habits), I created a simple habit tracker. I want to achieve these things 6 days/week, which should equate to ~40 hours of playing/studying poker. I also want to score an average weekly performance of 4/5 (or good, where 1 = very poor, and 5 = very good). The idea is that the right practices will help me to routinely improve, and trend towards high stakes over the coming months and years.

In terms of goals for the year, I want to play >400k hands and establish myself at mid-stakes(+).

Let's goo! <3

Good to have you onboard (I'm also a member of the NachosPoker team)! I really liked your habit tracker btw, and am now using a similar one myself - thanks for the template idea. Good luck! :)

Man, Into the Wild tells an incredible story. Would highly recommend the book by Jon Krakauer if you haven't already checked it out; gives you an even better insight into Chris' character, although the film does a pretty good job itself. Happy belated birthday, and gl w the rest of the challenge!

Click the buttons you're supposed to click as consistently as
possible, especially on the river.

Can you expand on why the river is of particular importance when executing?

Brill post as ever. Looking forward to the next update! :)

I also struggle as I'm sure many do w overemphasizing results in the short-term. One way in which you could try to detach from short-term results is by avoiding checking regularly (don't show the cashier in your client & remove any relevant stats from your most commonly used HM reports). That said, this obv isn't a great approach when playing underrolled/shottaking (and is something you've likely already considered :p).

Looks like you're doing some good work Gaz, keep it up!
